To think you don’t watch Friends like this

DD 13 has just discovered Friends on tv. Instead of starting at the beginning and working through the series, she just watches them randomly. So one minute Ross is married to Rachel (who doesn’t know), the next we’re back when he has a pet monkey, then I blink and he’s married again, but to an earlier wife.
I adored Friends as a late teen/ twentysomething and have seen every episode but I watched them in order as they aired, and always eagerly awaited every new series. I just feel like she’s not getting the same experience this way. It’s also clogging up my sky Q, we’ve got 76 episodes recorded and another 3 million on the planner!
I realise I’m being irrational here btw. But seriously, she’s not watching it right is she! Grin

Nope oP I think we can safely say we will all be behind you if you tell her she needs to leave the house.nc.its over haha.
The only watch randomly when you've watched in order. I think it might actually pissed me off because then it wouldn't have a guess how good it is and ID be always on the defensive of it haha.

x2boys · 03/01/2019 10:58

My 12 yr old can watch them can enjoy them randomly but he has watched them repetitively on a loop on comedy central for years .

youcanthaveitchyteeth · 03/01/2019 10:59

OH MY GOD
That is so wrong OP 😂

KlutzyDraconequus · 03/01/2019 10:59

The only wrong thing here is that she's watching Friends...

kateandme · 03/01/2019 11:00

Piss me off because you wouldnt yet how good how it is

KiteMarked · 03/01/2019 11:01

I did this with the American Office. The pilot episode was sooo cringey I couldn't handle it, but 9 seasons made me think there must be something good about it so I watched the 9th season first. Then I was hooked and started from the (still cringey) pilot episode first. It was kind of fun watching relationships develop, already knowing the outcome, and waiting for new characters to appear.

DobbyLovesSocks · 03/01/2019 11:04

@KiteMarked is american office similar to the Uk version? I like the Office and re-watch that and Life on the road as it appeals to my sense of humour but haven't seen the American version yet

KiteMarked · 03/01/2019 11:06

I haven't watched the UK version, actually! But I know Ricky Gervais wrote a few episodes of the US Office.

FrankieChips · 03/01/2019 11:12

DobbyLovesSocks rewatching SATC makes me realise what an awful human being Carrie is. I thought she was so cool when I was younger. And the second film ruined Aiden! SPOILER He would never have done what he did with Carrie in the show. They changed his character.

Love Friends! She’s doing it all wrong.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 03/01/2019 11:13

How are you meant to appreciate the whole Ross/Rachel thing and many other great moments when you watch it like that!

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 11:14

The Office (US) is utterly brilliant.
Friends is bilge.

dogzdinner · 03/01/2019 11:15

Why would she voluntarily do that?? Surely it takes away a lot of the enjoyment.

I like that my DS has now watched them as we can finally share Friends references eg when it looked like he was going to put some mince on his ice cream and when I could tell he'd been moving things in the house around when I was out.

I wouldn't say I'm a dedicated fan, but it is surprising how much of life can be compared to the show. Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2019 11:16

I blame you, you clearly haven't raised her properly.

Tell her to start from the beginning or move out.

lazyarse123 · 03/01/2019 11:25

Friends is crap whatever order you watch it in.

Lweji · 03/01/2019 11:25

Surely it's
O M G !!!

DobbyLovesSocks · 03/01/2019 11:26

@FrankieChips I watched the two films and thought the first was ok but the second was awful.
I will have to give US office a try once I have finished watching Designated Survivor on Netflix. Found it by accident and am hooked (on ep 15 of first season so far)

fruitbrewhaha · 03/01/2019 11:32

It's a moo point.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 03/01/2019 11:32

KIDS THESE DAYS Angry

She's not doing it right AT ALL. Start at the beginning and watch them in order (preferably a binge watch over 3days) like the rest of us did.
You can't keep up with the story!!!

I'm angry on your behalf. LTC (leave the child.)

rightreckoner · 03/01/2019 11:48

She is so wrong. I am watching it all again with my 12 yo and 9 yo who love it. They are enthralled Grin and really enjoying the way it develops. I also find I know every single episode and pretty much every line Grin

fireworksscarethedogs · 03/01/2019 13:56

How will she understand the WE WERE ON A BREAK jokes, if she's never seen the break and Ross cheating because he's a cheater.

fireworksscarethedogs · 03/01/2019 13:57

I can't move furniture without saying pivot.

Firesuit · 03/01/2019 14:05

Sky Q downloads the next episode as soon as you starting watching one, so, assuming everything is still available for download, delete everything and then download the first episode. After that they are not allowed to explicitly download any episodes.

Ideally, in addition to a "download the next episode automatically", Sky Q needs a "delete the previous episode" setting, so the box is automatically kept tidy.
