There is an acquaintance who seems to not like me very much. To my knowledge I've never offended him and I am always polite to him. I'm just not sure why he is always making snide comments.

I asked in a group we were hanging out with about the cards against humanity game and whether it's the type of game I would enjoy (I don't really know anything about the game and some other friends who know me well said I'd be very offended by it). Most people said maybe, it's quite rude, but this acquaintance said "actually I think you'd win it". As he is generally negative with me, I assume it's a nasty comment.
What do you think he meant by that?

I'd assume he wants to trick you into playing it because he thinks you won't like it/ will be offended by it.

Anyat212 · 03/01/2019 01:49

Hi OP

I’m thinking the tag line of the game literally is:
A game for horrible people

Which I’m assuming he’s probably making a dig if you don’t get along. The game is quite offensive however, we have it and it’s a right laugh to play particularly after a couple of drinks - he could be meaning something a little more light hearted though, as anybody can win it - it depends on your sense of humour and the cards you have, you need luck on your side to win.

LearningMySelfWorth · 03/01/2019 02:00

My friends at uni play it but I find it crude and not to my tastes at all. Just ignore him, he's most likely being a dick anyway if that's his MO. Next time he is negative/rude towards you pull him on it in front of your friends. Don't accept that type of treatment from him.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 03/01/2019 02:19

Well generally the aim of the game is to fill the blank on the card with the oddest/crudest/rudest/funniest thing you can think of so he either saying you're very funny or, well one of the others!

The4thSandersonSister · 03/01/2019 02:42

He's saying your a horrid person and not even being the least bit subtle about it.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 03/01/2019 02:46

He thinks you’re a prick.

Racecardriver · 03/01/2019 02:51

I think you are over thinking this. Respectfully, let this go. You really don’t need to worry over people like that.

HeartyLaugh · 03/01/2019 03:07

Ive never heard of this game. I would call him out on it. Innocentely ask why he thinks you would win it?. It will show him up for what he is or he will have to squirm with a plausible answer. Either way he is being rude so avoid him as best you can.

JillScarlet · 03/01/2019 03:48

It could have been just a joke.

xsahm · 03/01/2019 04:08

Call him out on it, I've spent my life being passive and tiptoeing around dicks like this. I've realised now it hasn't done me any favours and I wish I had told people what I thought of them more.

Does it matter that he doesn't like you? Who is he and what influence does he have?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/01/2019 04:21

Every time I've played it, it's always the one you'd least suspect that comes out with the best/worst answers

mummmy2017 · 03/01/2019 04:24

It is just a card game.
You fill in the blank on the question card with one from the 10 you hold in your hand.
Q. The trouble with sex is........
A. The mass orgy the neighbours hold every Thursday night...

Oct18mummy · 03/01/2019 04:27

We played it and the guy I least expected (quiet, reserved and generally lovely) won. Don’t take his comment to heart but next time throw the question back at him and ask him why for clarity

Rafabella · 03/01/2019 05:54

Yep - ask him why. Call him out on it. He either - doesn't like you / feels threatened by you / fancies you.

Either way his behaviour is not acceptable. Shame him.

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/01/2019 06:15

Playing this game with my fairly well to do mother in law was one of the highlights of Christmas for me...but it’s not for the easily offended! He may have meant you would be hilarious in your delivery/choices because you’d be a dark horse as it were.

crispsmonster · 03/01/2019 07:10

Thank you for your replies
ShockI'm genuinely shocked by seeing that tag line Sad
I know it doesn't matter if he doesn't like me, not everyone has to. He's just a colleague so difficult to avoid at work. But I'm really not a horrible person and I just don't know where this has come from. If it's a one off I wouldn't have caught on to it or it could be a joke but it's always a little snide comment here and there. He always says it a bit quietly or amongst other people talking so as soon as I've thought about it, the moment has gone to challenge it. I also don't want to make a scene or ruin the evening for others.
He really doesn't know me that well to have such a vendetta against me. I'm actually so personable that selective mute people feel like they can talk to me!
I'm very tempted to post the above photo with wtf to our WhatsApp group. It's not often that I would confront someone!

RitaTheBeater · 03/01/2019 07:22

I don’t see the point of re-visiting it now. It’s happened.

Be ready next time. ‘Bye Felicia’ him or say ‘what’s that supposed to mean?’ Or ‘stop having a go at me all of the time’. Or ‘fuck off’ is the obvious one.

InspectorIkmen · 03/01/2019 07:27

Yes - don't react to it now because then it will look like you've spent time stewing on it and that's what he wants. He sounds like a ridiculous inadequate piece of shit tbh. Wait and strike next time he pulls a stunt - I like the suggestion above of just "Fuck Off" Grin but I'm sure some genius posters will supply a range of killer quips to floor the twat!

easyandy101 · 03/01/2019 07:32

I don't think he was calling you horrible I think he wad trying to get you to play a game that you wouldn't enjoy and wanted to see your reaction to it

I'd give it no more thought

lurker101 · 03/01/2019 07:34

Every time we play it’s the one you least suspect that wins - so maybe not so insulting

JustABetterPlayer · 03/01/2019 07:36

He thinks you are vulgar, replying with ‘fuck off’ wont exactly change his opinion Grin

oldmum22 · 03/01/2019 07:44

"Did you mean to be so rude?"

LotsToThinkOf · 03/01/2019 07:45

It's a funny game! And the tag line is not strictly serious. I'd have taken it to mean you're funny but quite reserved.

You're over thinking it. I bought this game for some relatives, they're not horrible people they're funny!

It's not a game to play if you're easily offended.

KatharinaRosalie · 03/01/2019 07:59

I had a person who disliked me for a long time. At some point I asked if I had done something to offend him, or what the issue was. Turned out he had overheard and misunderstood something I said, and since then believed I was a terrible homophobe. As he was gay, that of course affected his opinion. I could convince him it was just a misunderstanding. Could you ask him that you feel he does not like you much, and what could be the reason?

JillScarlet · 03/01/2019 10:52

The tag line is a JOKE.

Actually, I’m the context of the conversation he might have been complimenting you.
