Is this cheeky?

I’m a live in lodger in quite a plush house, and one of the rules is to ask permission re having guests (allowed 5 nights a month).

I’ve been here about five months and have had friends to stay maybe four nights in this time (almost always in my room). This has not been a problem.

I’d like to have two to stay this weekend as we’re celebrating a special event, and they are coming from far away. One can stay in my room and one in the spare room if allowed (this is normally permitted). We’ll be out al day and only home to sleep.

Is it cheeky to ask this?! I like my landlord but our paths don’t cross too often and haven’t seen him for a few weeks now with the holidays. Feel bad texting him this as an almost greeting!

Not at all, I hope you have a good night.

It sounds within the usual rules. Doesn't sound cheeky at all to me. Can't hurt to ask.

Sounds reasonable to me. Why don't you phone him instead of texting?

Yep, no harm in asking! Especially if you explain as you have here that it's for a special event. (Don't forget to wish the landlord a happy new year! Wink)

I think it’s fine. I’d stress that it’s a special occasion and not a request you are likely to make frequently.

Not cheeky, it sounds within the rules
