I've got weakness down one side particularly in my arm, it is so bad now that I cannot pick up the kettle properly on that side if there is water in it or pans or such and am often having tremours in my hand when holding something.
I am utterly exhausted the whole time and don't feel 'right' at all.
I have already seen a doctor but she isn't very good in general and said the sudden weakness was just as a result of it not being my dominant hand.

We only have one regular GP.
I have debated trying to time it when ours is off and seeing a locum but have no idea if I'm wasting their time after being fobbed off.

You need to see a consultant so its time to start insisting. If she fobs you off again then ask for a second opinion, and consider making a formal complaint.

SB1013 · 02/01/2019 23:10

You should definitely go back to your GP and when you make the appointment just ask to see someone else. At my practice there is no set GP you just get given an appointment with whoever is available. Your weakness doesn't sound right and you shouldn't be fobbed off. There can't only be one GP at your surgery

noego · 02/01/2019 23:11

Call 111 or go to A&E

paintinmyhairAgain · 02/01/2019 23:11

def.chase this up and don't be fobbed off. i would complain too.

Cupcakey · 02/01/2019 23:20

Just to say I am currently going through this too been going on 4-5 months. My legs give way and are like jelly, tremor down left side plus weakness. Exhausted all the time and various other symptoms. GP referred me for a brain scan and neck scan both came back clear. They don't know what's going on with me yet I'm being seen by a neurologist. Please go back to your GP and explain how your symptoms are impacting your daily functions, keep a diary of any symptoms it helps a lot when relating what's going on.
Sorry I can share any help but be persistent.
Hope you get some answers x

LavaLampLover · 02/01/2019 23:23

Could it be a full body version of something like bells palsy? Bells affects one side of the face but this sounds similar but down one side of the entire body. I would also be worried about strokes. Go back again and insist on being sent to a neurologist

Housesofhistory · 02/01/2019 23:24

Thanks everyone.

Cupcakey does the weak side feel heavy, particularly arms?
I've also had headaches, dizziness and blurred vision which comes and goes but when there I can barely see.

I'm totally fed up :(

OP, I have similar symptoms. I've got nerve damage, I'm now on Vit B injections and other supplements.

On top they've diagnosed CFS, or fibromyalgia, which I think is a lazy diagnosis.

I was checked out by our local eye hospital, as well as MRI scans etc.

She should have at least started with bloods.

Housesofhistory · 02/01/2019 23:29

Lava I know a family member had issues with Bells some years ago so I had thought of that. Thank you will ask.

Cupcakey · 02/01/2019 23:35

Yes sometimes heavy like it's an effort to move my arm and do tasks then sometimes it just feels numb. Write all those symptoms down and go back to gp. I've also experienced dizziness, falling over, headaches and vision issues.
Previous poster mentioned bloods that's the first thing my gp requested.
Definitely go back. You have my sympathy I'm so fed up too. x

Ilove · 02/01/2019 23:38

Lack of B12 or Vit D can do this. Ask for comprehensive blood tests (B12 it NOT picked up on a general blood count, and Vit D is rarely tested)

Strawbberrypineapple · 02/01/2019 23:44

Is it possible to change gp surgery? Otherwise keep going back till you get either a promise of tests or referred on. Be a nuisance if need be. Hope you get some help with this soon.

RestingButchFace · 02/01/2019 23:47

Houses I really don't want to worry yiu but some of the symptoms ie tremors blurred vision and dizziness were what my cousin had before he finally got his diagnosis of MS. You need to insist that the GP refers you. I hope I am totally of the mark.

RestingButchFace · 02/01/2019 23:54

Also your doctor sounds crap if not negligent my dd aged 19 went to see her doctor with similar symptoms (without the weakness) but dizziness, constant tiredness and blurred vision. She had an MRI within 3 weeks, thankfully it was just a vitamin b12 deficiency. I really hope you get sorted

Housesofhistory · 02/01/2019 23:59

Resting I had a brain scan about five years ago due to signs of MS but they said the brain scan showed nothing.
I'm hoping that that wasn't the early signs!

That was at the doctor's where we used to live.
We are rural so catchment is a nightmare for other surgeries.

Just to be completely "out there", I actually had something very similar. Turned out to be migraines/anemia making me dizzy and then ulnar nerve damage messing up my arm, because I sleep often with the weight on my left elbow. Kept smashing my hand into things and cutting it when chopping veg because it wouldn't move out of the way of the knife fast enough. 🤣
Took iron tablets, went on the pill, and switched to a memory foam mattress and it all got better.

Just to suggest something possibly a bit less sinister. I would still insist on having the doctors take you seriously, but there are so many things it could be, try not to worry yourself unnecessarily. Flowers

AornisHades · 03/01/2019 00:13

Get yourself on a vitamin D supplement. If your GP won't refer you to a neuro then ask for a referral to musculoskeletal person to assess for physio. They can assess and refer to neuro.

ImPreCis · 03/01/2019 00:26

It may still be worth taking Vit B12, even if you get it checked and it comes back OK. The UK acceptable levels are very low in comparison to other countries. I was just on the acceptable level and had to fight hard to get treatment and it made a big difference.

nakedscientist · 03/01/2019 00:28

If you can't get any sense out of the GP, go to a walkin/ out of hours doc or A and E next time you have an episode where you can't see. They will refer you to the right people rapidly. You really need to be taken seriously.

TotHappy · 03/01/2019 00:42

Ooh this sounds so similar to what my mum's going through, she's a year down the line and has had tests for stroke, MS, and the latest is they reckon it might be migraines.... She refers to it as her 'episodes', occurs in clusters not constantly and she describes numbness which makes her clumsy and weak although according to physio actual muscle strength is still there
I remember her suffering migraines when I was little but they were the traditional headache ones. She's been told that it can manifest like this - but they also can't rule out MS as it obviously doesn't have a straightforward test. No effective treatment yet but I'd say definitely push for referral
