Fed up with night time cough

Been suffering with it for months. Only at night. Seems to have baffled the doctors. Tried reflux medication (perhaps not for long enough- but with no other symptoms could it be that?). Also had a chest xray and asthma test - all clear. Elevated hcg (?-allergy) levels.
Could it be a memory foam mattress, reflux? Doctor has suggested a ct scan but didn't seem to know to ne honest
Said it was unusal.
Anyone any suggestions? CT radiation exposure makes me anxious.

Sounds like you’ve had a lot of testing that surely something would’ve shown up already.

Have you made any changes to your bedroom before the irritation ocurred? For instance new duvet, pillows, paints or carpet?

My neighbour has a persistent cough which i think is down to the amount of plug ins and diffusers that she has, ( you can literally smell them when she opens a window or door and we are detached) If you have those it maybe worth getting rid of them.

Do you have another space you could try sleeping in to see if it improves?

I hope it improves for you!

I have similar and I'm pretty sure it's reflux causing it. Have you tried propping yourself up on an extra pillow? Hope it improves soon.

My daughter has asthma and coughs at night pretty much all the time. I just bought a humidifier for her bedroom and she has stopped for the first time in forever (I just put water in for now but you can also try essential oils)
I'm the winter, with the radiators on, the air can become really dry and can affect your lungs etc...

I second the humidifier, I got a cool mist one and it is a god send. I also second removing all plug ins, scented candles, diffusers etc..I know you were tested for asthma, but I have known GPs to prescribe inhalers for persistent coughs just to help kick it into touch. That might be worth exploring if they haven't already.

Post nasal drip?

Elephant07 · 03/01/2019 07:06

Thanks all. Ill try those. CT scans are safe right?

I think they are unless you are pregnant as far as I'm aware. I've done many (cancer treatment so was being checked regularly for lungs infections etc...). It's a quick in and out thing

I had this once and one doctor prescribed a brown steroid inhaler to use twice a day for 2 weeks. Coughing at night went away. I know you said you have been tested for asthma but my asthma wasn’t an issue in the day just relentless coughing at night so I didn’t connect it.
