Mine are:

Garnier mositure bombs - just discovered these & love them
Olive oil & sugar to exfoliate chapped/dry lips - cheap & natural
Bonjela for coldsores - I find it works alot quicker than coldsore cream

Anyone else got any tips/hacks? 😗

I wish I'd thought of Bonjela for coldsores, I could have saved myself a lot of pain!
I use a sugar and baby lotion scrub on my hands when they get dry skin and look rough, or when I come in from the garden and they're dirty. Rinse off under the tap.
Also, I sometimes get reflux at night, so in the morning use a whitening toothpaste with an extra dab of bicarb of soda to neutralise the acid.

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 16:41

User - Thankyou for baby lotion & sugar suggestion. I'll use that one.

I suffered with really bad coldsores last year. Made me very misetable. Discovered Bonjela & as soon as I feel the tingle I put it on & it zaps it straight away. Also less messy than cream.

Also occasionally brush my teeth with bi carb & salt. It helps with plaque.

Bonjela on cold sores?!

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 17:12

Yeah. I think you can actually buy Bonjela especially for coldsores but I just use the normal one.

Re. coldsores - try taking a high dose of L-Lysine tablets. Apparently it helps to keep them away. Ask in Holland & Barrett for correct dose but I think I read 500mg x 2 a day.

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 17:31

Bagel - Thankyou for the advice. I was only saying to my DH last week I'd not had a coldsore for a while (touchwood). Normally get them when I'm rundown so was surprised I didn't one on the run up to/over Christmas. I bought a new tube in especially just incase. I use it in conjunction with Ibruprofen as that helps with the swelling.

Do you use one part oil and one part sugar? How long does it last?

Shoxfordian · 02/01/2019 17:35

I like carmex as well for lips

Hellywelly10 · 02/01/2019 17:38

My tip is put on loads of moisturisor a couple of hours before you go to bed. Its a cheap and easy hydrating mask.

Sausagefingers9 · 02/01/2019 17:40

Let your moisturiser settle in to your skin for a good ten minutes before applying make up

Sudocrem is excellent at getting rid of spots as it’s so zincy. I put a thin layer on whenever I know I’m going to be inside for a while. Next day my spot is almost gone.

Sarcelle · 02/01/2019 17:57

I make a paste of table salt and exfoliate my nose, especially the corners. I commute into London and my nose gets gunky (tmi?) and the scrub with salt leaves it very smooth and clean.

I use a hand scrub but when that runs out I will revert to using table salt in a bit of cleanser and using that instead.

(Not beauty bit still table salt themed - nothing better than a salt gargle if you have a sore throat. Better than any shop bought remedy. I promise you I am not obsessed with salt!)

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 18:58

No measuring needed tbh. I just pour abit of olive oil on a plate & some sugar. Dip my finger in the oil then into the sugar so it sticks to your finger then gently rub it over your lips. The sugar does dissolve abit so just keep dabbing more on your finger if needed. I do this once a week.

Do you put the salt paste up your nose?

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 19:02

Sausage - does it matter which Sudocrem you use? I heard it was good for spots so I bought a tube of healing cream then realised I may have been better with the antiseptic one. I sometimes put Bonjela on spots. Doesn't always clear them but it does take the redness away.

I had an amazing massage in Greece last year using olive oil and salt, it left my skin ridiculously soft all over. I kept meaning to make some up at home to use on my arms, but I never did. Thanks for reminding me - I'm going to try it.

halfwitpicker · 02/01/2019 19:04

Johnsons baby lotion to remove makeup, even mascara

Johnsons baby shampoo for greasy hair

Vaseline for a multitude of beauty sins

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 19:09

I use baby oil to take make up off.

I also used to pay to have my nose waxed but watched a Youtube tutorial & now I do it myself with sugar, lemon & water. Bit time consuming but far cheaper than the salon. If there's any hairy noses out there search katrinaosity (how to make sugar wax) on Youtube 👃

I use sugar & olive oil too, as a lght face & body exfoliator. It tastes nice which is a bonus. I can't believe what the likes of Body Shop / Lush are charging for sugar lip scrubs, it's madness.

I use almond oil on my nails (when I remember) too - it softens the cuticles - one to do before bed as it's a bit messy for during the day.

Witch hazel is the best toner I've found. It also pretty much what's sold as Clinique's toner - again I don't know how they get away with it. I get it from Savers for

6triesbuttingout · 02/01/2019 19:47

Goodness I had no idea. Shopping tomorrow

SpinSpinSpin · 02/01/2019 19:53

Flyinggeese - which almond oil do you use? I'm using a cuticle oil at the minute but will give this a go when it runs out. Thanks

Morgan - no rub it on the outside. I am not sure how grubby the inside of my nose is, and I don't want to think about it!

Forgotmycoat · 07/01/2019 22:31

Olive oil for cleansing the skin
Rose water for toning
Argan oil for moisturizing. All 3 organic.
You can sunscreen over that if using.

Greek yogurt as a simple brightening face mask. Aloe Vera from the plant as an occasional face mask for brightening and anti ageing.

I'm currently learning to cut my own bangs. Apart from how much money this can save me, I'm mainly doing this to get to know my own hair better as day to day I just put it in a bun and have NO idea what on earth to do with it.

Ifangyow · 07/01/2019 22:40

A couple of tablespoons of honey in the bath water leaves skin lovely and soft. Great if you have eczema or other skin complaints too.
Take a shallow dish of sugar into the bathroom and after lathering yourself with your fave shower gel, dip hands in sugar and rub over skin. Amazing soft skin again, lovely on the face.

Advice79 · 07/01/2019 22:51
