To think you don't need lengthy NYE fireworks

Like 20-30 minutes worth of racket at midnight. It's OTT and so unsociable.

I'd be more than happy with a council-run display (or other official type arrangement). I wouldn't be able to go (as cannot leave dog alone!) but I'd have no objection to that at all. I just don't want fireworks in my street (built up and completely unsuitable for them).

Babdoc - I don't believe there is a current petition. One got discussed in parliament and rejected a few weeks ago here

I quite like NYE fireworks! Due to early rising little ones we were tucked up in bed by 8.30 on NYE, but was genuinely lovely to hear and watch our neighbours fireworks display at midnight. We woke up watched the fireworks for 20 mins felt all included intnhr NYE celebrations without having to stay up and then went back to sleep again.....perfect!

I went off fireworks when I was about 18 and remember hearing my very elderly war veteran neighbour crying for his mum and recently lost wife in terror at the fireworks in an organised display close to our house.

Now I have 4 dogs who hate them and luckily we have found a good natural tablet that sedates them a little, but they still lie there with their eyes wide open.

Silent fireworks like Italy is the way to go in my opinion, or the little crackly ones. The booming ones are so unnecessary.

A prolonged load of banging starting at midnight is pretty horrendous if you want to sleep

Couldn’t agree more Blush

Couldn't agree more about this. I love a good firework display but NYE is just crazy nowadays.

I'm one of the 'in bed well before midnight' brigade - I don't care if people think I'm a miserable git - and I wear earplugs on NYE for this very reason, but this year I was woken up by what I can only describe as howitzers that almost seemed to shake the house with repeated bangs. It was absolute madness and honestly felt like being in the trenches or something.

Why on earth do people feel the need to do this? They'd started at 8pm as well!

On my local facebook page some people were saying they had fireworks early on NYE for their children (one at 5pm and one a 7.30pm). I just don't see the point of this because surely if you are going to have fireworks they are at midnight to see the new year in?

We also had fireworks where I live on 1st Jan evening!
