What to do for mum's birthday? Spa day not doable...

Want to book something nice for my mum. Ideally a full day experience. Spa day would be ideal but we have two kids (7 & 0) so sadly not doable. Anything nice we can do? It'll be me, kids, my partner and my brother.

I'm stumped! Just want her to be able to relax, but equally she just wants to spend time with her new grandson so needs to be child friendly...

(Sorry for posting in AIBU, not getting any responses elsewhere!)

Afternoon tea

Trip to the zoo

Museum/gallery with a nice lunch

Visit a castle...not sure where you are but Leeds castle (actually in kent) is really lovely for a family day out and has a nice restaurant.

GreenTulips · 01/01/2019 12:32

Yep I agree

Zoo
Farm
Afternoon tea

Carmana · 01/01/2019 12:33

@formerbabe I'm in Staffordshire so can definitely do castles!

Can't do animal things/zoo as she cried last time we went as she doesn't like animals in cages...

To be honest are you sure she'd actually want the kids there. It's her birthday not theirs.

BumblebeeBum · 01/01/2019 12:36

Something you did together as a family when you were a kid? Along with sweet message about how much you appreciate all the memories she gave you and hope to make many more with her grandchildren involved now too.

Carmana · 01/01/2019 12:46

@user139328237 yep. He's her first grandson and she's said all she wants on her birthday is to see him. We live 3 hours from each order so don't see each other much.

Is the birthday imminent or in the summer?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/01/2019 12:50

I would make an afternoon tea at your house, less stressful than being out with young children

Carmana · 01/01/2019 12:50

@caesio it's in 2 weeks!

Day at the seaside with a nice lunch or fish and chips on the pier.

Afternoon tea in a nice hotel.

JennyHolzersGhost · 01/01/2019 12:55

Plan a nice walk followed by tea at a quaint pub

MissCharleyP · 01/01/2019 13:01

Ironbridge? Adults can walk round, enough for kids not to get bored and places to eats

Twisique · 01/01/2019 13:10

National trust house then afternoon tea just you and your mum while the kids go home for a nap.

Carmana · 01/01/2019 13:15

DS is only 11 weeks and EBF so can't send him home for a nap.

I'd second Ironbridge, particularly Blists Hill, but google it first so you can think of which things would be particularly interesting to your children.

If the weather turns unexpectedly nice and you fancy a garden instead, Biddulph Grange is fantastic, divided into little gardens in the styles of different countries, so would be interesting to the 7 year old too.
