Aibu to worry that I've harmed my unborn baby??

I hope people might answer and tell me I'm being silly. My DD5 is asleep upstairs and the washing machine went into a spin cycle but the machine was very very loud and vibrating. I held the cupboard door firmly as it was this making the most noise. The machine is fitted behind a door.

Anyway I felt crampy afterwards and now I'm thinking I was stupid to do that. It was full on vibration for about 3 minutes. Could this travel to baby?? I'm 23 weeks and really worried now.

I doubt the vibrations hurt the baby. It is pretty well insulated in there.

coffeekittens · 31/12/2018 21:28

Your baby will be fine, they’re surrounded by amniotic fluid and washing machines would come with a warning sign if unsafe around pregnant women.

Sassenach85 · 31/12/2018 21:30

Thank you I know you are right - but my irrational brain says the washing machine company wouldn't be expecting me to hold onto it during a spin cycle Confused

Do you suffer from anxiety and has it ramped up in pregnancy?

UhUhUhDennis · 31/12/2018 21:31

Absolutely fine sweetie honestly don't worry!! Happy New year and enjoy x

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/12/2018 21:34

Do you have anxiety OP?

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 31/12/2018 21:35

I went to an African drums show mid pregnancy. The vibrations were unbelievable. Baby was fine.

Taytotots · 31/12/2018 21:35

I did some research on this as there was a vibration risk at work for me when pregnant. Most research says very little effect because amniotic fluid absorbs most of vibration. Especially with that little exposure I very much doubt there will be any issues.

Divgirl2 · 31/12/2018 21:36

Have you ever been underwater at the swimming pool when the wave machine is on? You barely notice the waves. Baby will be fine.

Happy new year!

Hodgehegg · 31/12/2018 21:37

You poor thing! Please stop worrying. (I think everyone would feel a bit queezy after holding on for a spin cycle!) I took an accidental slight blow to the tummy whilst pregnant and freaked right out. My midwife looked at me like I was crazy and said the baby would be well padded, swimming around quite happy & not feel a thing (and he was!). Have a glass of something non alcoholic and try to stop thinking about it. Happy new year!

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 21:39

Your baby will be absolutely fine, try not to worry x

TheVoiceOfRaisin · 31/12/2018 21:42

I think your baby will be fine. Another member's husband dropped their newborn onto a hard floor from chest height the other day (visibly dented head) and I believe the baby was ok.

FuckingYuleLog · 31/12/2018 21:44

Your baby will be fine. Even holding onto a crazy bumpy washing machine won’t have shook you that much and your baby is in liquid. Completely normal ime to go into overprotective worrying overdrive though - I cringe when I think back to the things I worried about with my first. Then when pg with dc 2 they had to contend with being kicked around by their tantrumming older sibling before they were even born!

norfolkandchanceyou · 31/12/2018 21:46

Years ago when folk travelled by horses& cart I'm sure that would have been far bumpier and a regular occurrence. Woman still had children though.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 31/12/2018 21:52

I saw Slayer whilst pregnant with my first.
You'll be fine OP

jessstan2 · 31/12/2018 21:54

You'll be fine, relax. The Ab Fab film is on TV at the moment, a little off beat light humour will help you.

Babymamamama · 31/12/2018 22:10

I went to several concerts at the 02 while pregnant. Very loud. Dd is top of her class so no harm done. Please don't worry.

Sparklesocks · 31/12/2018 22:11

Baby is all safe and cozy in there, vibrations won’t hurt.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/12/2018 22:12

Your baby is perfectly fine, I promise.

Sassenach85 · 31/12/2018 22:13

Thanks so much everyone I honestly don't suffer anxiety. I don't know if it was just the subsequent cramps that came on or the way my DH reacted when I told him. But you have all reassured me thank you x

Ontheboardwalk · 31/12/2018 22:15

You both will be fine from the vibrations behind the door.

I would check you haven’t got any transit bolts still in the washer though if it’s spinning and making that much noise - just for a quiet life!

Sassenach85 · 01/01/2019 00:32

Thanks everyone! Happy new year Grin
