To be annoyed because DH said he would...

...be disappointed if I took a sip out of his wine glass?

DH has a wine glass he always drinks from. I borrowed it earlier and ‘threatened’ to use it for my wine for the evening. He started saying that he would be ‘disappointed’ if I took a sip out of his wine glass. He told me he didn’t find the joke funny. My view is that it is a wine glass so making statements about being disappointed is ridiculous. I’m considering taking myself off to do something else on NYE because I’d rather not spend the evening with him. AIBU in relation to any of this stuff? Fully aware that it is a pathetic argument all round but I’m totally Shock that he has actually made that comment about my drinking from a frigging wine glass!

Weird. I’d be annoyed too OP.

If I had a special wine glass...I’d love dh to take a sip from it,

YouWereRight · 31/12/2018 20:27

Honestly, I'm territorial about my mug, so on that basis he isn't being unreasonable.

HollowTalk · 31/12/2018 20:29

Introduce him to the concept of "two girls, one cup" and you have a sip out of his glass will suddenly seem very mundane.

HollowTalk · 31/12/2018 20:29

...and he will find...

Windgate · 31/12/2018 20:30

I don't think your 'joke' is funny either.

TulipsInbloom1 · 31/12/2018 20:30

I definetly have a favourite wine glass. It is a specific shape, purchased by me because I like it. Dh knows this. He wouldnt make me use a different glass would choose this one for me. Because he is nice. He may or may not use it when i am not there but I dont mind as long as he doesnt break it.

Why cant you just leave the man be?

LEMtheoriginal · 31/12/2018 20:32

Yabu

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/12/2018 20:35

He’s being absolutely pathetic. It’s a glass. It won’t be damaged by you drinking from it.

Bringbackthestrioes · 31/12/2018 20:38

DH has a wine glass he always drinks from
It is the one he always like to use so why would you use it? Unless you are trying to wind him up....
Agree with YouWereRight and, judging by the messages that get sent around in work when someone’s favourite mug is missing, this is very common and people like to drink out of their favourite receptacle.
Use a different glass.

TulipsInbloom1 · 31/12/2018 20:39

Maybe he is just reacting to Op being a bit of a knob.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/12/2018 20:41

I suspect OP threatening to use it is because he’s such a knob about his glass in the first place. Unless he was planning to use it himself then it’s available for anyone else to use. OP is there a huge dripfeed to come about you having broken every single glass you’ve ever supped from?

AcrossthePond55 · 31/12/2018 20:41

I have a 'special' coffee mug and also a 'special' tumbler. No one uses them but me, at least not when I'm around. DH has a 'special' thermal mug that no one else uses. It's like wearing someone else's clothes. You wouldn't do it without asking first, would you?

We have plenty of 'non-special' mugs and glasses so no one goes without something to drink out of.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 31/12/2018 20:44

I don't like sharing mugs/glasses or food so I'm with him! I have so little that is just mine I lose the plot when DH comes and dips his biscuit in my tea for instance. Blush

Okay. I accept the majority of opinions are against me! Now I have to say sorry which is pretty hard to swallow...

It's pretty odd to be that fucking possessive and that's a weird turn of phrase

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/12/2018 20:50

Amazing.

On any given day on MN there will be people flaming a woman for daring to expect her husband to acknowledge her birthday because “she’s an adult, not a 5 year old! Can’t understand grown adults making a fuss over birthdays” and here we have a grown man being supported in sulking over his wife using his special sippy cup glass. Brilliant.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/12/2018 20:52

Btw I have a favourite mug too. It was bought for me and has a picture of Tom Hardy on it because I love him. But I still let the DC use it! And they don’t even appreciate Tom Hardy! Grin

Ellie56 · 31/12/2018 20:53

Hmm A special wine glass? If he makes this much of a fuss about it I think I might accidentally drop it...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/12/2018 20:54

God don’t apologise, you have no need to.

DeeDaDe · 31/12/2018 20:54

Dunno, it's a bit extreme to consider not spending NYE together because of a wine glass, surely?

DinoGreen · 31/12/2018 20:56

Mhm, I have a favourite mug, if DH drank tea from my mug or, worse, served someone else a cup of tea in my mug, I would be extremely upset.

Stormwhale · 31/12/2018 20:56

Wow I cannot imagine my dh being in the least bit bothered about this. He has a couple of favourites, but happily shares them.

My favourite mug became the one for scooping the dog food for a while Thanks to dh. I guess I need to ltb!

Oh the humour Hmm

Val87 · 31/12/2018 20:58

Overreaction on both sides!

Troels · 31/12/2018 20:58

I think you are being unreasonable, and overreating saying you won't spend new years with him over it. Buy your own.
It's his glass, so his to use. Same as people who have a favorite mug for coffee. It is dissapointing when someone takes and uses a cup/mug/glass that you love to use and it's yours.
Leave him alone.
