To ask the techies why my PC won't connect to the internet

I've just got a laptop (refurbished but in v good nick). Going through all the usual set-up and when it comes to the wireless, it will connect to the main hub but not the routers. For example, it connects to the main hub in the living room, but not the router extension in my office, which has a different name but shares the same WIFI password.

The computer recognises all the routers, it lists them, just won't connect.

Any thoughts?

Thank you and a very Happy New Year

Have you manually entered the passwords for them?
Do they have good signal when you're trying to connect?

I've entered the passwords manually but they are simply trying to connect but unable and don't

Check the security settings on your router. You may have to give permission to allow it to connect to a new computer.

Thanks @Aquamarine1029 - but would that be the case if it's connecting to the hub already?

It might be because individual routers can have their own whitelists and permissions.

It’s not in airplane mode is it?

The extenders might use different standards to the main router, which the wireless adaptor in the laptop cannot handle. Different standards are a, b, g, n and ac. Can you post up details of what router, what extenders, and what wireless card is in your laptop?

I can but I have no idea where/how to get that info. I'm sorry. I'm thick!

Is the hub single band and the routers duel band?
Some computers don't like duel band connections and won't behave when connecting to them. If this is the issue there should be a way in the router settings to split the bands.

In each room is a Netgear Powerline V500. The hub is a Virgin hub, I think (all the way downstairs so can't check) but we with Virgin.

Does that help?
