A close family member asked if they could take the kids shopping for class then for their Christmas present on Christmas Eve, I said that would be great, they need new clothes.
When I picked them up they had bought and were wearing Christmas themed clothes. All of it was Christmas themed so only wearable for a weekish then put away for next year when it won't fit them any more.

Aibu in thinking this is a waste of money that would have been better spent on clothes they could wear for longer?

I’d probably be a bit irritated for the reasons given. However, did the kids enjoy themselves? If so, it was a good thing

Not your money so what does it matter? Nice that they took them out and treated them.

It is annoying, but there isn't much you can do about it.

I can see why hou are itritated, but honestly why can they only wear it for Christmas? Let them wear it all until spring.

You don't have to put them away, they could be the children's clothes for going in the garden and doing activities like messy play.

I have a 3 year old ds and sometimes we cut up his old clothes and do arts and crafts with them. He loved his diy pirates costume from old clothing.

You can get plenty of use from them, they just won't be suitable 'going out' clothes.

FissionChips · 31/12/2018 19:00

Why can’t they wear them longer?

I’d be annoyed by that...but then I’m not a fan of Christmas themed clothes at all. I’d see this as spectacularly lacking in common sense and wasteful...but wouldn’t say anything because it’s not my money.

Loads of families were dressed up in matching Christmas jumpers or pyjamas for the obligatory Facebook photo this year I noticed. I must have missed that memo, thankfully.

I don't think you can expect presents to be things you would otherwise have to buy. Relation probably wanted it to be fun for kids and kids wanted Xmas clothes.
