Help! Cooked the turkey on Christmas Day, cooled, put straight in fridge and then put in freezer on Boxing Day. Took out of freezer, defrosted and made into pie yesterday along with bits of sausage, stuffing etc that had also been in freezer/fridge with turkey. I'm now reheating it (properly with meat thermometer) for tea tonight. The turkey, sausages, bacon and stuffing will have been cooked, frozen, defrosted, reheated, cooled then heated again. NHS website says not to reheat turkey more than once, this will be twice. Will we be ok? Thanks!

Just like dementedpixie we ate soup with ham in it that sat on the hob for the best part of a week and just heated it up once a day. In fact DM (in her 70s) still does this and none of us has ever been ill from it.

I rebate chicken soup many times and it's fine.

Please stop telling people to ignore good food hygiene because it hasn’t killed you yet. If people choose to take chances with their own health then that’s their choice. But you shouldn’t be telling someone else it’s safe to do so.

I cooked a ham, made a pie with the leftovers two days later and the reheated that pie the day after that. It never occurred to me that I shouldn’t have done this! I’ve done similar loads and never poisoned anyone.

Noooo, I wouldn’t. My partner works in catering and he’s quite strict about food hygiene.

Iused2BanOptimist · 01/01/2019 14:08

I'd have eaten the pie and taken the leftovers to work next day for lunch. Maybe eat cold. Maybe a blast in the microwave. I do that sort of thing all the time.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/01/2019 14:12

How would eating it quickly make any difference Grin

ParadiseLaundry · 01/01/2019 14:14

I do this all the time and have never even thought twice about it. I would make sure it's searing hot though. I have never been ill or made anyone else ill with it.
