My baby smells like other people's perfume

I hate it!

Am I being unreasonable to hate it when people plaster themselves in perfume and then get it all over my baby. He smells lovely as he does normally. Of cheese.

Can't wait to bath him.

I think this is bonkers and totally precious....

TornFromTheInside · 31/12/2018 15:24

My baby smelled of cheese

It's why we called her Baby Belle

KonaMum · 31/12/2018 15:25

Ahh I love when DS smells like his Grandma’s moisturiser. It’s lovely that she’s been snuggling him.

Or moisturising him

Nothisispatrick · 31/12/2018 15:31

I never understood it when people talk about that lovely newborn smell. All babies I’ve met stink of old milk and sick, even my own (and she is bathed regularly!)

@Dieu God, not another precious baby thread!
God, not another unnecessary moany comment. 😉

No one is forcing you to read this thread. If you're not interested then that's fine. There is no obligation to post so if you're not interested then FO to a more interesting thread and place your hopefully more helpful comments there.

I get where the OP is coming from.

poloves · 31/12/2018 15:44

I'm really not being precious either. He's a brute of a boy and I'm never over protective of him especially now he's nearly 11 months old. Just, a baby smelling like perfume is weird!

I hear you OP. It's a long time since mine were babies but I hated them smelling of someone else's perfume. As someone else said upthread I think it's an instinct to want your baby to smell familiar.

OhmydearGod · 31/12/2018 15:48

I remember my ds coming back from visiting expils smelling of stale BO. Xh's parents' personal hygiene was flaky to say the least (there was literally a thick layer of grime and dust in their bath). It was massively grim. Envy

OutPinked · 31/12/2018 15:49

I hate it too, likewise when someone with a strong perfume leaves the room and the stench lingers for hours. I can’t understand the attraction in such an overpowering stench personally.

Beeziekn33ze · 31/12/2018 15:54

DS reckoned my perfume was too much for his newborn so I stopped wearing it when she was visiting. No problem!

User758172 · 31/12/2018 15:57

Of all the things to be annoyed about... this is ridiculous.

Val87 · 31/12/2018 15:58

Cheese?
I used to avoid wearing perfume when I worked with babies for this reason but it’s not really a big deal.

poloves · 31/12/2018 16:02

Yeah cheesey, milky baby breath 😍

I think this could be the cause

My baby smells like other people's perfume
poloves · 31/12/2018 16:51

@TornFromTheInside Oh that's it

CrookedMe · 31/12/2018 17:07

I'd forgotten this! DH always knew which relative I had been to visit by the old lady perfume that DD smelled of Grin

TornFromTheInside · 31/12/2018 17:10

Sorry! I thought it deserved a little lightheartedness!

LavaLampLover · 31/12/2018 17:10

I miss my kids smelling like babies. Slightly sour but sweet milk, baby soap, washing powder and the smell of home. Ahhhhh.

I'm allergic to perfume. Fucking detest the stuff as a result.

BertrandRussell · 31/12/2018 17:11

Spanish babies smell of cologne. Lovely.

TornFromTheInside · 31/12/2018 17:17

What do babies on Cologne smell of?

TornFromTheInside · 31/12/2018 17:18

*in Cologne
