Re Christmas Topic

Just realised there was one and went over to have a look. I was surprised at the number of posters who were discussing Christmas plans/presents/food etc during the Summer and even Spring months.

I get that some people really really love Christmas, but surely that's a bit obsessive?

You're discussing it a lot earlier than they were

People like to be prepared. It's not doing you any harm.

The Christmas topic is there precisely so that those who like to spread planning through he year can do so without annoying everyone in the general boards. Once we get to setember/October it tends to break out a bit but mostly it's contained.

fieldsgrowingdark · 31/12/2018 10:43

It's still the twelve days of Christmas greathat Smile

I agree. Some people seem to be absolutely obsessed with Christmas. It's as if the other 11 months of the year are just an inconvenience between one December and the next.

YANBU.

Tis why we have-our-own topic, fa la la la, fa la la la.

It’s whatever works for you.

I have to plan early and buy early as I only have a 4 hours contract and for various reasons. Coupled with my children’s birthdays in November I have to spread the cost somehow.

I work in retail and I’ve bought a few bits to put away already. For example a perfume gift set was £40 before Christmas, went to £15 yesterday and got it for £13.50 with staff discount. On my wage it’s just good sense. Plus perfume lasts as long as it’s kept correctly is fine until it is opened and then lasts however long it’s says on the box. In this case I know when the stock came in too.

It’s put away and will be forgotten about until later on when I look at what I’ve stock piled and decided on what’s left to to do.

I also buy £1 ‘food’ stamp every week so that goes towards the big Christmas food shop.

It doesn’t harm anyone, and lets me do a lovely Christmas for my family without the stress over money or rushing around to buy presents. I find for me this lets me enjoy Christmas and just spending time with family doing things together.

My way is not for everyone.

People spreading the cost across the year is one thing.

But people getting all excited about Christmas months and months in advance and putting up their decorations in November really need to find a hobby.

Klobluchar · 31/12/2018 10:56

To get my family all together for Christmas is no mean feat and needs a lot of advanced planning.

We all enjoy Christmas and being together and the planning is fun too. Inevitably on our family WhatsApp group, we deviate from talking about booking flights and where we’re going to be on different days to the smaller things that definitely don’t need forward planning but which we enjoy discussing.

It isn’t he be all and end all but I do look forward to it and see no harm in chatting about it at any time.

fezzesarecool · 31/12/2018 11:03

greenlightredlight Tbf that will be me in 2019 as I missed out this year as I had norovirus over Christmas, so I will be looking forward to it a lot more than I normally do.

Onehellofaride · 31/12/2018 11:13

I love Christmas and I start planning very early. I also love Easter, and summer, and bonfire night, and Halloween, and Valentine’s Day and parties, days out, holidays, watching films with DC, eating out, working, cleaning... I am a meticulous planner and I like to keep busy. Just because someone wants to start planning early it doesn’t mean they don’t love the rest of the year too!

RaininSummer · 31/12/2018 11:17

I plan early as it takes a full year to make the knitted or crochet gifts. I also cannot bear shopping in November or December when the world goes mad and there only seems to be crap in the shops.

KC225 · 31/12/2018 11:25

Its mainly the bargain thread that moves quickly on that board. Its handy for people purchasing gifts throughout the year.
