To keep out-of-date Baileys?

I've been given a bottle of Baileys for Christmas. I've just been putting it away and realised there's an unopened bottle there that I'd forgotten about, either from last year or the year before. I've checked the bb date (didn't actually know they had them until watching Death on the Tyne the other night! Blush) and it's October 2018.

WIBU to keep it and open/drink it over the next few weeks or is that a definite no-no and it should be poured straight down the sink?

Has anyone ever drunk Baileys or similar past the bb date? Were you OK or ill afterwards? Well, more ill than usual anyway! Wink

Is it meant to be stored in a fridge? Have never, ever done that!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/12/2018 16:00

Thanks all, didn't end up opening it last night but just got in from work and DH has poured me a glass. It's perhaps a shade darker than usual but tastes fine and definitely not curdled.

As to how I forgot it, I love it but it's not something I drink in the house much - more a "one for the road" at the end of a night out. A relative knows I like it though and buys me a bottle most years so can end up getting stockpiled sometimes! Probably drunk it past the bb date loads but, as I say, didn't realise it had one before!

I must confess I don't keep it in the fridge though apparently you should once it's open.

I had a bottle from last year so looked this up before. Baileys (the proper stuff) has a taste guaranteed of 2 years after bottling, opened or unopened, it doesn't need to be stored in a fridge, a cool cupboard away from direct heat/sunlight will do. I would suspect it would be ok for a least another 6 months or more after that if it looks/smells ok.

I prefer it room temp as i like it with ice that has melted a bit and that happens quicker with room temp baileys rather than refigerated.

Oh and i forgot to say .. i would totally drink it that little out of date.

orange - had they made fudge out of it, and then shoved the fudge back in the bottle, do you think ? Wink

I’ve drunk old Baileys and old advocaat and I’m still alive

Sarahandduck18 · 31/12/2018 16:36

I thought it had to be drunk within 3 months of opening?

DuringCommute · 31/12/2018 16:38

I'm amazed you have Baileys long enough for it to go out of date!

We only have it around christmas time. A shot is lovely in a coffee mid afternoon.

I rescued an unopened bottle out my teetotal granny's flat a few months ago. BBE March 2014. I ummed and ahhed and then opened it yesterday to see what it was like... Absolutely fine! Drank one of my granny's tiny crystal cut wine glasses full of it. Cheers granny Gin

How can it not be drunk within three months of opening? A bottle lasts about three days in this house once it's been started.

JennyHolzersGhost · 31/12/2018 16:48

This is clearly a troll thread. Nobody can have a bottle of Baileys in the house for that long without drinking it. Wink

Alwayscheerful · 31/12/2018 17:20

My friend won a bottle in the village raffle , I enjoyed a very large glass, we then checked the sell by date, it was more than 8 years old. I lived to tell the tale!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/12/2018 17:24

@JennyHolzersGhost now if it was wine or gin that was forgotten in this house (or DH's Southern Comfort) I'd definitely be trolling!

I think it does have to be finished quickly once opened but this was put away unopened and forgotten about - now it's open it won't be around long trust me!
