Im getting a costco card through my work and im beyond excited Grin. Im really looking forward to seeing what its all about. Ive been to makro many times in the past. Told my gran i was getting a card and she said oh costco is way better than makro.
What are the things to look out for and what should i stock up on?

Aveeno cream is really good value too if you use that.

Floralnomad · 29/12/2018 21:41

Their round dog beds are fabulous for the price . Too late for this year probably but the mince pies are excellent as well . Also cheap petrol if you are going to one with a petrol station .

clary · 29/12/2018 21:42

I don't think it's MUCH cheaper than Aldi, but things like tinned tomatoes and tinned tuna are better quality IMHO and same sort of price.

I also buy mince and sausages and stash in the freezer. Also good for brands eg if you must have Nutella. I have to buy Persil for the DCs' skin and that is good value.

Cakes and pastries are yummy but you do buy loads (is the cake is enormous!) so best to do for parties etc.

yy petrol for sure.

We usually buy toilet paper, dishwashing tabs and washing capsules. We also buy the frozen yasai yakisoba (3 minutes to cook in the microwave and very tasty) and a giant blovk of cheese which i cut into smaller pieces to freeze and defrost as needed. Other favourites include the chocolate brioche, giant tubs of flying saucers and boxes of 40 walkers crisps.

We usually pick up a few extras while there and end up spending around £90 each time, even if we have just popped in for loo roll, but it works out cheaper (or tastier) in the long run.

clary · 29/12/2018 21:44

haha everyone has said the croissants! You get like 20 tho, it's mad, they won't keep, oh no I will have to eat them all now 😂

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 29/12/2018 21:44

beurre d'isigny

Just mentioned this thread to DH in a wistful, 'remember when we used to go Costco' way. I had a card years ago as I had my own business. Then he tells me he can get a card through his work and we can go whenever we want!

I had no idea he was eligible for a card and had been for years! Should I LTB?

PowerPantsRule · 29/12/2018 21:44

I love Costco - so do the kids, weirdly - we often have a family day out at Costco. I tell the kids it is the closest they will get to an American supermarket in the UK. Massive tellies alongside kitchen roll, bumper tubs of Haagen Dazs and huge trays of croissants.

The books are amazing - they do boxes of books, like the whole of the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson series in one big box.

Also good - socks and pants are bargainous, hummus is great as is the baklava. Oh and the gazpacho in the deli section. Kids love the takeaway pizza and hot dogs.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 29/12/2018 21:47

the cheeeeesssssssssssseeee all the cheese!!

macaroniandpizza · 29/12/2018 21:48

Feber princess castle ( pink and purple with turrets the lot) best buy ever.

Furrycushion · 29/12/2018 21:50

Many things, but the loo roll is rubbish.
Love the very reasonable pots of fresh sauce for pasta. Love the rotisserie chicken. Shearling slippers.

Northernmum100 · 29/12/2018 21:51

The dry/biscuit dog food is the only one that doesn't upset our dogs digestion.
Nappies were good value
Cakes, especially mince pies which are HUGE...

Furrycushion · 29/12/2018 21:53

The croissants freeze beautifully

Waddsup12 · 29/12/2018 21:56

I bought the round dog bed. My dogs actually take turns & there is one in it permanently. We have loads of other beds, which they ignore now.

Coastal cheese, dried apricots, olive oil, goat log, meat...

lalaloopyhead · 29/12/2018 22:01

Large quantities of anything basically, and you will always come out with lots more stuff than you intended!
The danish pastries are brilliant but difficult to get through a whole box. We get toilet roll, tinned tomatoes, hot chocolate, breakfast cereal. The gift wrap is good too, about £8 I think for 4 double sided rolls which last all year. Beware the Christmas wrap though which is about 30metres and we are on our 4th year and getting a bit tired of it!!

TheGonnagle · 29/12/2018 22:02

The baklava, I forgot it this year Shock also, the giant German stollen is a staple in our house in January -it’s so lovely.
Yy Kirkland Prosecco.
The granola bars dipped in chocolate.

WatcherOfTheNight · 29/12/2018 22:03

Dog food unfortunately nowhere near Millies quality @macaroniandpizza ,but agree with lots of other items mentioned by pp.
My regular buys are :

Enchiladas
Cheese
Trays of tinned toms
Water
Coffee beans
Pancakes
Yoghurts
Meat
Salad
Chicken tenders
Vodka
Nando's marinades

There are probably a few other items, especially if on a monthly offer ,DH gets his tyres & we also bought the laminate for Ds bedroom there & it's great quality .
