DanielleEvans · 29/12/2018 19:15

Hi ladies- does anyone know off the top of they’re head how many units is safe to drive?
I normally don’t drive at all if I drink, I’ve had 2 small glasses of wine - is that ok to drive?

No!

Almostfifty · 29/12/2018 19:16

Not if you're in Scotland. You'd be over the limit.

3out · 29/12/2018 19:16

I think it’s one glass of wine, but that’s Scotland

dementedpixie · 29/12/2018 19:18

I don't even think you can have 1 glass of wine in Scotland now. Certainly wouldn't drive after 2

DanielleEvans · 29/12/2018 19:18

Ok ta, I’ll get hubby to collect me 👍🏻

Depends on loads of factors. Probably not, but try this for a better guide. www.insurancerevolution.co.uk/drink-driving/drink-drive-calculator/

SauvignonBlanche · 29/12/2018 19:20

I would after one small glass, and a meal but not two.

Norma27 · 29/12/2018 19:21

I would say no. But also as someone who had a close relative die this month as a pedestrian, but the driver probably had not been at fault. That one glass of wine could make an innocent mistake a criminal one.

sulflower · 29/12/2018 19:22

Bear in mind 2 glasses of wine can put one person over the limit and another can be under the limit. It is safe not to drink alcohol full stop when driving.

Schmoobarb · 29/12/2018 19:22

No I wouldn’t even have one.

TulipsInbloom1 · 29/12/2018 19:22

I wouldnt after one. I like Scotlands rules on this.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 29/12/2018 19:23

1 would be enough to put you over in Scotland. Not sure another he rest of the U.K. but I think you’re right to err on the side of caution OP, especially if you don’t often drink.

BIWI · 29/12/2018 19:23

Have you had anything to eat? That can make a difference!

Amanduh · 29/12/2018 19:23

In England it’s 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath or 107 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine. Noone can say what will take you over the limit, weight, age, sex and metabolism, alcohol you’re drinking, what you’ve eaten recently even your stress levels levels can affect it and be different for everyone. For the average women about three units is the limit. One small glass would probably be fine but probably not two.

sulflower · 29/12/2018 19:24

A close family friend's son was killed by a drink driver, the family was shattered irreparably. I loathe that anyone even considers it.

BIWI · 29/12/2018 19:24

... and also, over what time period?

pigsDOfly · 29/12/2018 19:26

I hardly drink at all now and never drink if I'm driving, but even in the days when I did drink on a more regular basis two glasses of wine, whether it put me over the limit or not, would have very much impaired my ability to drive safely.

Seniorcitizen1 · 29/12/2018 19:26

If you have a drink don’t drive - if you are going to drive don’t drink. Even a single unit can impare your reactions.

XiCi · 29/12/2018 19:30

It would depend on alot of factors, the most important being the timescale of having the drinks and driving. Get DH to pick you up, that way you can have a couple more while you're waiting Wink

Youshallnotpass · 29/12/2018 19:56

I watched the BBC show Trust me I’m a doctor and the England drink drive limit is insanely too high.

They had students drinking quite heavily and some of their bloody alcohol limit was still under the limit after 3-4 drinks! Shock

Biggerknickersagain · 29/12/2018 20:14

No one can really tell you definitely without a breath/blood test because everyone metabolises alcohol differently and there are so many variables like time periods, weight, height, food intake, resistance etc.
I get asked this a lot, working behind a bar and there's no answer other than don't get behind the wheel if you've had any - that's the only way to be totally safe.

ForalltheSaints · 29/12/2018 20:48

Thank you OP for your sensible response.

Incidentally, if I ran the country the Scottish limit would apply across the UK, and if you were convicted a second time I would never let you drive again.

DanielleEvans · 29/12/2018 20:50

Yeah, as I said I don't normally drink at all, it was unexpected 2 glasses of wine. At home now :)

I know you’ve already made the right choice, but this is worth sharing. Scotland’s drink drive campaign this year is a perfect fit for your OP.

I personally think the drink drive limit should be zero.
