Sorry it's not an Aibu but I may be wanting one of these...

What are they for?

Do I put one in every room?

Why would I put one in every room?

Do the dots connect together or do you need an echo to connect all the dots to?

Am lost with this. Family are asking for them but no one really knows anything about them in our house.

If I get special plugs can they turn the kettle
And the tv off etc?

I have 2, one in the living room and one in my bedroom. It's a small house so that means one can hear me pretty much wherever I am.

I mostly use them for adjusting the lights, adjusting the thermostat, and setting alarms/timers. Also listen to the radio and music.

If you get an Echo (not Plus) then you’ll have to also buy the thingy that bridges the lightbulb (etc) to the Echo

Not necessarily. We have Meross smart plugs and bulbs and they don't need a separate hub, you just download the app. They're cheaper than Phillips too.

I've mentioned this on other threads too, but if you already have decent speakers with an aux input (most do) then you can connect a dot to them with a cable. Saves buying the Echo just for the better speaker.

@MissConductUS
Thank you for the link I have ordered two and I will see how I get on them prob order another One and a big one next month.

If I can add an item every month or so I can go from there. Going to put one in the living room and one in our bedroom.

Thanks Really :) I’m just too lazy to have a separate app plus the Alexa app Grin

Reallybadidea · 29/12/2018 19:41

No, you just use the app to set the smart device up then just control through Alexa. Sorry, didn't explain properly.

Ohh! I’ve never realised that before! Obviously totally confused myself when reading up about them. Thanks for clarifying. I’ll give them a google.

There is someone selling them
On eBay for £14.99. This is too good to be true isn't it?

I think that's too good to be true. They might be refurbished. Buying directly from amazon you have full warranty cover and can ring for tech support if you get stuck on something.
