To ask for inspiration on a cover up tattoo (pic attached)

There should be two pictures attached to my post. The first one is what I wanted, the second is what I have. I hate it, for obvious reasons! It's terrible Blush

I have had tattoos done by the same artist before, and all his other work is excellent, but he really messed this one up! I'm not going back again.

Can someone help me with ideas for a small cover up please? I have a horrible imagination and anything I like is either not dark enough or massive. I don't want it too big. Any idea will help Smile

In don’t know, I think the basic tattoo is pretty much the same isn’t it? It just needs tweaking. I’d go into a tattoo shop and ask them what they would suggest and let someone get creative. That way your brother still has the tattoo!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 29/12/2018 19:25

@Colourfullanguage, I agree. It mostly looks like the shading is a bit different and something not quite right about the eye.

@horsesheep could you have it coloured maybe? That might solve the problem with it without altering it too much.

MorganKitten · 29/12/2018 20:55

Ok, my artist did a cover up for me and I love it. Black is hard to cover and remove so do some research.

MorganKitten · 29/12/2018 20:58

@MissLadyM because we can choose what we want to do to our bodies. I have several and now the one of my mums handwriting means more to me as she’s likely to be switched off in the new year if she doesn’t improve.
Why do you feel the need to judge others?

Haworthia · 29/12/2018 21:02

Have you considered laser? Not to remove it completely, but to lighten it enough to make a cover up easier / give you more options.

horsesheep · 29/12/2018 21:09

I have considered laser but I heard is far more painful than a tattoo and I'm a wimp Blush

It absolutely 1 million% is!! I'm in the process of having a section of black/grey lightened on my inner forearm so that I can have my existing tattoo "titivated" with some colour and honestly nothing prepared me for the painConfused

I like your design OP, I don't think I'd have it covered, just "titivated" Grin

I think they look exactly the same ConfusedConfusedConfused

mountainlakes · 29/12/2018 21:39

I think the ear needs reworking. I think if you sort that out it'll look much better.

Tippexy · 29/12/2018 21:41

@MissLadyM often because there’s areas of their life they’re not happy with.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/12/2018 15:15

Someone rattled your cage with a stick @Tippexy ?

Clearly you don't like them, so why even open the thread, of yeah that's right, just to be a goody twat.

Zwischenwasser · 30/12/2018 15:26

I think the original design is quite nice.

Looks to me that like your tattoo is not a million miles off, and could probably be tweaked by a decent artist, maybe with some colour.

It might be that a few laser sessions to lighten it would help. The important thing is probably not to rush into a cover up, but take your time and speak to a lot of artists.

It would be nicer for your brother if you could update the existing rather than totally cover.

Tippexy · 30/12/2018 23:02

@FrangipaniBlue Nope, I have no strong feelings on them either way tbh. I think watercolour ones can be really pretty. The research speaks for itself, however.

Evidencebased · 30/12/2018 23:08

Best ever reason for getting a tattoo.
Hope you succeed in testing it sorted.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 30/12/2018 23:19

@Tippexy I have fairly extensive tattoos and I wouldn't say there are parts of my life I'm not happy with what I would say is that there are parts of my body I don't like. The more tattoos I have the happier I am to show them off. I wore a swimsuit on holiday for the first time in years because I had in my head that for better or worse people would be looking at my tattoos not so much me. I know the logic is flawed but it works for me Smile
