Should I limit wi-fi for DS16?

Help!

I know its still the xmas holidays but DS16 in his room all day.

He's not dressed even at 4 p.m., not even taken his books out of his bag and he broke up from school a week ago.

It seems to me that so much of his time is wasted messing about on his phone - rap and grime music, social media, youtube videos, and it just seems a waste of his young life (to me). GCSE work not being done either (has exams in 5 months). Not doing any chores except the odd thing if I ask him 10 times or start shouting. He sees friends occasionally and plays football sometimes but thats about it.

I've just found out Sky has a way to restrict wi-fi to certain times on chosen devices and am thinking I need to do this, unfortunately. AIBU?

Good luck with that.

Could you not just start by talking to him? Personally I would say it's his holiday. However, if his gcse work isn't getting done then that is more of an issue. Could you suggest he put aside an hour a day to study where you will agree to keep the house calm and quiet?

Thanks Politician, we will have a talk later. We have had "talks" in the past though, things are agreed, and then mostly forgotten. I just "flipped" a bit when I saw him in his pyjamas at 4 p.m. - having done zilch all day. I agree with you re. holiday - its OK for a few days - but he's like that in term time too ...

I'm on the fence - yes, I have certainly shared your frustration in the past. There's little that's more irritating than watching your child, coming up to critical exams, pissing around playing Football Manager in pyjamas in the middle of the afternoon. I've been there and there may well have been shouting involved.

But the more reasonable part of me thinks that school is high stress, the pressure is relentless, and for the sake of their mental health and general emotional well-being maybe they need to be playing Football Manager in pyjamas in the middle of the afternoon. They can stress about GCSEs in January.
