Doctor let door close in my face

I've just been to the doctors with my 2 month old. He called me in, the door was 2 meters if that from where I was sitting. I stood right up, baby in one arm, changing bag in the other. He walked in to his office and let go of the door. It literally closed in my face.

AIBU to think this is pretty poor? Yep, I'll get over it but there's nothing worse when you have PNA to not be treated with at least a little bit less f respect. He then sat and did the appointment without even looking at me.

Feel like crying and didn't raise the embarrassing issue I had been building up in my head all morning as I just felt like he didn't care..

Having a basic level relationship with your caregiver is important. Without trust there's no relationship. How can you trust someone without making eye contact? Sorry your appointment sucked op. Try again and ask either for a different doctor or for the same doctor to pay some attention.

All of our regular GPS are like this - bark out 'enter' when you knock their door, no eye contact, just sit tapping away at their PC, give the impression they are just not interested. Spend more time asking when my last smear and flu jab were than asking what my current concern is . Amazed when a locum recently opened the door and shook my hand as I entered and left and seemed genuinely interested in me as a person who wasn't feeling too well.

GPs have to record on their computers for records, which means they often are typing as you talk, which is more accurate and quicker than listening to you and trying to remember later.

To Witchend:
Which does NOT excuse not exhibiting empathy! If that's the reason the GP spends a great deal of the consultation gazing at the screen, let them at least show basic awareness of the breathing human opposite them.Welcome them with kindness,do not yell their name, walk offwith their ,back tothe patient ,let the door fall back in their face. For goodness sake,a stranger in the street could show more evident concern!Explain why they are typing as they consult as "it will mean I can take proper notes,to help you."
And do not plead pressure of work for a lack of common civility.

The Dr didn't act as professionally as he could have. However, as you've said, you've spent the morning building this up. Think you've gone too far in over analysing it.

Next, say, you don't appreciate him not looking at you as you feel he/she isn't listening to you. It's really that simple to remedy.

ItsThisOneThing · 28/12/2018 19:42

I get it. It takes a lot of courage to speak openly to a GP about sensitive issues. He did nothing to put you at ease. Sounds like he has a terrible manner and is very rude.

I personally wouldn't complain but would ask for a different doctor next time

Yep, they ask the questions they want to ask which are usually linked to what they get additional funding for. My GP asks me every sodding time whether I'm depressed - I have never given the faintest indication of depression to anyone at the surgery, so I can only assume they get more funding if they can tick a "depression" box. Kerching!

Actually please do feedback to the practice manager. I’ve worked with Doctors who have poor people skills, it doesn’t get addressed unless patients complain.

We had to take our DS to the gp on Xmas Eve. Usually there's a tv screen in the waiting area and names and room numbers ping up. However someone decided to put the biggest Christmas tree in front of it. So on Monday Drs were coming out and calling patients names. DS got called, we got up, turned into the corridor and the dr had completely vanished. It's a really long corridor with rooms off either side. No names on the door either. He eventually poked his head out of one and looked quite annoyed we hadn't been ready to sprint after him, ill child in tow.
