to keep quiet about not receiving an invoice?

I've recently bought my first home with DP and as part of that process we had various surveys and safety inspections done probably too many but we were over cautious first time buyers

I was struggling to find a contractor for one of the inspections so the estate agents arranged for someone they regularly use to do it. The arrangement was that he would send me an invoice and I would pay via BACS... all fine, except I've just realised that we never received the invoice (inspection was carried out at the end of November).

As the estate agency also deals with lettings, I imagine that he has sent it to them and they have paid it. With the stress of moving and Christmas I have genuinely only just realised that we never paid for this. Obviously if I was to finally receive the invoice I would pay up without question.

The estate agents were pretty crap from start to finish, so I can't say that I'm feeling too guilty about them footing the bill, which was just over £100. AIBU not to contact them to chase the invoice or point out their mistake?

Personally I would check. It's possible that the invoice was sent to the wrong address, for example, and it could cause more trouble down the road if you don't check up on it now.

Are you sure it wasn't included in your invoice from the estate agent.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 28/12/2018 02:30

@knittingdad we still have access to our old address (parent's house) so I would have it if it had been sent there. The contractor knows our current address as obviously that's the property he inspected so it wouldn't be difficult for them to get in touch.

@cstaff we didn't pay the estate agents anything as we were buying the property, not selling. I suppose it's possible that they could have added it to the vendor's bill.

Could be that the contractor is a bit slow getting his paperwork in order OP.
We had some bathroom work done and it took the plumber 6 months after he had finished the work, to produce his invoice.
We also chased him up twice in that 6 months.
It will find you, eventually.

I wouldn't feel too bad about it. If they send you the invoice obviously pay but I wouldn't go looking for it tbh.

Perfectly1mperfect · 28/12/2018 02:47

I think you will probably be sent the invoice soon. The inspection was only carried out at the end of November so with Xmas, it's likely it's just been delayed.

kateandme · 28/12/2018 02:59

if it is on the estate agents they will not miss out on money so will somehow have included it.(sorry to all estate agents just on previous experiences)
I wouldn't chase it.
but I would be constantly thining every time I spent something "oh I cant what if I need that money If they chase me up for it!"but that just because I have too little money so that would break me if I didn't have it.

Don’t say anything they will find you if they want you to pay

I'm not sure harpy , we had a gas service done around 5 years ago and waited and waited for an invoice, it never came!
