Hotel help

So I have booked to stay in a hotel from the 1st to the 5th of January.

It’s a budget hotel so think helljet.

I booked this hotel because it was the only one left in the area and it’s urgent due to a death in the family ( Irish).

However, upon telling a friend she was shocked that I’d booked that place as she had just ( few weeks ago) stayed there!

Saying that;

The WiFi did not extend to her room

The room was FREEZING and they do not supply extra bedding

The door opened with another persons bloody key!

She said that she only stayed two nights so could deal with this ( safety wise she had her big husband in the room)

But I’m terrrifed! I won’t have my partner with Me, it’s the exact same hotel and it’s just shy of £150 for my five night stay.

I have gone onto the booking but I’m unable to cancel as it’s literally tomorrow.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of any ideas of how to cancel with the hotel and get a full refund or that of £100 so I can go elsewhere without losing that money at this time of year.

I’d rather go to a old family friend than stay in that hotel tbh and pocket the 100 to put towards funeral.

Is it worth staying one night? ( with one eye open) and then saying that it’s too cold, not safe and complaining till I get money back?

I’ve had my door opened by another guest in more than one hotel. Always very posh places being paid for by work. I think it’s because of a quirk of my last name, I sometimes get filed incorrectly.

Now, I always just close the security lock that is at eye level whenever I am in the room.

It depends on their cancellation policy. The hotel I work in has a 72hr cancellation policy, however if someone called on a Sunday to cancel their Monday-Friday stay we would only charge the cost of the first night. Also our night porter has walked into a guests room more than once, and we're 5*. Always an accident though.
I would call and explain your concerns. Generally reception/reservations are very helpful.

Have a look at hotels.com or booking.com for reviews, they may have more recent ones.
Is it a chain hotel? They tend to be OK, even the budget ones, although they may be a little spartan.
