Tomorrow is my 40th birthday, and I’m also working Xmas Sad

Help. Tell me what’s good about turning the big 40.......

OP posts:
whiteworld · 27/12/2018 18:42

It’s better than the alternative!

Plus, I don’t give the tiniest shit what anyone thinks. I feel free to wear, do and be what I like.

I’m more confident, i’ve Just done more training and been promoted. My work life has never been better.

Enjoy it, op!

NigelGresley · 27/12/2018 18:43

@PatPhoenix i have never heard of boracic! Just looked it up, thought perhaps it was a typo Grin

redcarbluecar · 27/12/2018 18:44

I was uncomfortable about turning 40 but I’ve loved being in my 40s- increasingly comfortable about being who I am (for better or worse!) Now not too far from the next zero birthday- it all flashes by so might as well seize any moment of happiness or fun along the way.
Happy birthday! 😀

Snugglepiggy · 27/12/2018 18:47

You have another 20 years before contemplating turning 60 .I'm serious !

Liz38 · 27/12/2018 18:53

The older I've got the more confident I've got in knowing what makes me happy and getting it. Not at other people's expense but just not being a doormat, not putting up with being miserable at work rather than change jobs, not ordering something crazy and different at the curry horse when I know I like Korma...

It's been great for me Smile

Not so happy about hitting 50 though and I've only got a few years to get my head around that one.

HalloumiGus · 27/12/2018 18:55

Not taking any crap, making time for what's important- or at least trying to. For me it's about thinking how I want the next 40 years to look and making the necessary changes.

And yes the chin hair! Mine is called Eric 😁

lljkk · 27/12/2018 18:56

I was a lot happier after 40 then before. More confident in my choices & knowing what I like & don't like (& no need to justify them... also no need to try to fix the world). Probably now at 50yo I am the fittest I have ever been in my life. I do acknowledge this must be a peak -- that's fine. Life is an arc.

I don't agree that being old = ugly.
I don't agree that losing anything physical (like perfect hearing) = tragedy.
I don't agree that being young = wonderful.

You can choose what to believe; my choices keep me happy.

ThistleAmore · 27/12/2018 18:59

40 next year, having a bit of a wibble, so loving this thread! Keep it coming! Grin

Singlenotsingle · 27/12/2018 19:06

The older I get, the better life gets! 40 was ok but I was working full time, with two ds's, so stressful. 50 was better, and I met a new dp (still able to wear shorts! Grin), at 60 I retired and suddenly was able to enjoy plenty of spare time on hobbies and new grandbaby. What has 70 got in store? Wink

PatPhoenix · 27/12/2018 19:08

Oh another one. Remember that a politician at 40 is considered a lithe young thing Grin. why not stand for the council/parliament? [I haven't btw]

Passmethecrisps · 27/12/2018 19:12

I turned 40 recently and I have to say it feels fine. I have two young kids and a full time job so I probably don’t look too amazing and I am pretty knackered but overall I feel good.

I feel confident and like I have proven my worth. I know what suits me and what doesn’t so I no longer care about trying to be fashionable. I have reconnected with old friends who are also 40. They have all changed for the better in their own ways as well.

I see people round me getting ill and, Moro’s was it sounds, I will soon be attabeding far more funerals than weddings. I feel I have a lovely life and need to hold it tight

NikiFree · 27/12/2018 19:12

I'm fitter now than I was at 30.

I get plenty of male attention.

I am more experienced in my career than I was at 30.

I earn more money.

eurochick · 27/12/2018 19:14

I give zero fucks what people think of me.

I'm far more confident in my looks than I was 20 years ago.

MissCalamity · 27/12/2018 19:14

Another one who's 40 next year! I'm enjoying reading all these. Xmas Grin

littlewoollypervert · 27/12/2018 19:23

I had the best sex of my life at 47 (And I had a LOT of fun in my 20's for comparison!) Then I met my current boyfriend. It's even better Grin

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 27/12/2018 19:25

I don't get why people are hung up on age as a negative thing.

You can't get younger, you can't freeze time, and the only way to not get older is to die.

So what does it matter if you're 39, 40, 60, 80, whatever? Accept who you are and how long you've been here. There's no such thing as a 'bad' age to be, because you have utterly no choice in what age you are.

itsalmostfriday · 27/12/2018 19:29

I'm almost 40 and I feel more content now than I ever did.
It's really liberating not having to worry so much about other people and what they think of you. This is something I have only been able to achieve through age.
I have a different perspective on the world and I definitely feel wiser.
I don't sweat the small stuff at all anymore.
I know for certain that there is nothing that can't be fixed. No problem is too big.
Embrace and enjoy it

Ivegotthree · 27/12/2018 19:30

I am so much more confident and well off. I would never have guessed how much I'd love being in my 40s but it's great.

I give zero fucks about what people I don't like think of me.

I take huge happiness from my children and other things that make me happy eg running, buying nice clothes, cooking, reading.

It's great OP!

Kemer2018 · 27/12/2018 19:32

Nope. I'm 45 and still waiting.
Happy birthday

luanmapo · 27/12/2018 19:38

@MrsTerryPratcett You nailed everything I was going to say.

I loved turning 40. (41 now). I don’t feel it, even with 4 children. They keep me young, I look after my skin, run 3-4 times a week and try to enjoy my life.

I didn’t celebrate 18,21 or 30... so hd a big girls night out and stay at a hotel for my 49th with my closest and dearest friends. It was amazing!

Happy birthday for tomorrow @llikeviognier 🎂🥂🎈🎉

luanmapo · 27/12/2018 19:39

For my 40th.... not 49th!!!!

MrsTerryPratcett · 27/12/2018 19:41

Funny that so many people have mentioned running. I took it up in my 40s and it's great. I would NEVER have considered it before. Now I can run 6-8km on a weekend and feel great (I look like a disgusting, sweaty tomato but see above; don't care!).

TaighNamGastaOrt · 27/12/2018 19:46

I'm turning 40 next week along with several of my friends. I want to approach it disgracefully so have stopped dying my hair. Practically white. I already don't give a shit what people I don't like think of me, so I'll be perfecting that.
Biggest thing is I'm going to quit smoking properly. I want to start running again.
So many folks my age have died recently, I'm just grateful to have got this far! Happy 40th birthday!

P.s I'm getting a tattoo too! 😁

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 27/12/2018 19:50

One thing that stood out in the recent PE thread was the number of women who hated running at school, then discovered C25K in their 40s.

I've also learned to be proud of my body & what it can do. And I love that.

Ratonastick · 27/12/2018 19:54

I love my 40s. I do not give a single, mouse-sized shit what other people think of me anymore. I’m secure in my own skin. I love the life I have. Basically I just have the confidence that I lacked for the first 39 years!
