Need to see a GP

I work in a hospital and the constant washing of my hands has made my eczema on my fingers worse. Ive been to the GP several times but it hasn’t got better and just keeps getting worse, i think it’s infected (picture posted below). Ive rang my GP but they cant get me in today or tomorrow and we’re going away sunday. I need to be seen before then. WIBU to ring 111 at Christmas to make an appointment at the out of hours place? Think they do more than just out of hours now

Sorry to be butt in again but mine is regularly hot and weepy when very sore and it's not infected. But of course that might just be me, if this is is new for you then of course seek professional advice.

@Cherries101 - the big Boots store don’t have nurses on site - the pharmacists provide the vaccination services.

OP - a pharmacy should be able to help.

Pop into a health food shop and get some Hypercal cream. It's St John's wort and marigold and absolute magic on almost any skin problem.

They might even sell it in Boots these days, where all the homeopathic stuff is.

Oh I’m so sorry for you OP. I suffer from eczema, but not nearly as badly as my DFriend who is a nurse. You’re right that the constant hand washing is so bad for it.

where are you going on holiday? UK? Somewhere abroad and sunny? Health insurance?

I find even just a UK holiday does great things for my (hand) eczema and I hope your break will provide you with some relief so that if you can’t reach a GP, you’ll at least get chance for some natural recovery.

Plan of action
Use the betnovate(is it Rd or 0.1%?.....the stronger the better
Smear on the area and under a dressing if you can, duoderm if you can get at work, and then cotton gloves on if you have them from before.
Do twice per day( although evidence says once a day enough)
Use emollient on your hands every hour! to replace the moisture lost.
It does not look infected, it looks like typical contact dermatitis,so don’t panic about an a if you can’t get fusibet

Ebayaholic · 27/12/2018 10:12

You can get fucibet via private prescription with an online pharmacy, it will cost around £15

DearTeddyRobinson · 27/12/2018 13:49

Fusidic acid (fuciden) - you should be able to get from the pharmacy. Then moisturise like mad once it's cleared up.

GoatYoga · 27/12/2018 17:43

Fucidin is prescription only

You will need to speak to your manager and occupational health if u haven’t already as it could be deemed an infection risk.
My hands used to become sore and like yours due to the gloves and I had to see the occupational health team.
