At a loss and want to get on contraception!

Bigonesmallone3 · 26/12/2018 22:57

Implant, had two in a row (so 6 years total) no periods, no side effects 👍

FinallyFree123456789 · 26/12/2018 23:00

Implant - on my 2nd one in 3 years as they only last 18 months for me - no periods and no surprises Wink best thing ever!

flossietoot · 26/12/2018 23:00

Copper coil. No hormones, don’t have to think about it. Slightly longer and heavier periods (went from three days to five), but don’t respond well to anything with hormones

MrsMWA · 26/12/2018 23:02

Abstinence.

EwItsAHooman · 26/12/2018 23:04

DH got a vasectomy. We knew our youngest DC would be our last no matter what happens in the future, DH said that if we ever seperated then he wouldn't want to start a new family with any future partner due to his age (coming up to 40) and the fact he already has enough DC. I didn't want to take hormone-induced contraception, didn't want a copper coil, the thought of an implant makes me feel a bit queasy, and we both dislike condoms so it was the best decision really.

Headaches and masturbation

mortifiedmama · 26/12/2018 23:09

Minipill (progesterone only- cerezette or cerelle depending on what the pharmacy dispense).

  • no periods
  • stable mood/ no mood swings
  • vastly improved IBS symptoms (no flare ups in 18months)
  • easy to stop and start as required for TTC
  • not relient on a medical professional to put in/ remove (after initial consult with GP I get a 6month script and renew every 6 month via phone/ email and pop in to the surgery to do a bp reading every 12 months).
  • no negative side effects.
Bluebellsarebells · 26/12/2018 23:12

I've got an implant.
More to control my hormones which were making me miserable and giving my migraines and unpredictable periods.
Not had a period since I got it, one migraine in 18months compared to one a month.
Sometimes I get bloated or feel like I'm having mild pmt symptoms, other than that, maybe a little weight gain but I'm small anyway.
Wish I'd got it years ago.
Contraception wise it's back up on the rare occasions I ever have sex, extra peace of mind is always nice to have in case of any human error.

CandyCreeper · 26/12/2018 23:13

Single now but if I needed it in the future i would only use the pill as coil and implant freak me out.

keenkaren · 26/12/2018 23:14

Not having sex is working a treat for us Grin

Lyricallie · 26/12/2018 23:16

I’m 26 had the implant since 21. Maybe have one period a year and in my second implant. No pain when getting it in or out I just didn’t watch. I’m very forgetful so the pill wasn’t ideal for me.

Only downside is the panic every so often that I could be pregnant If I get a weird symptom as I don’t get a period to tell me I’m not. However so far so good.

BeanTownNancy · 26/12/2018 23:17

Implant. Had 3 - no periods, long lasting, and no chance of accidently forgetting/vomiting/taking medications which negate the effectiveness, and my doctors took it out for me pretty quickly when we decided to TTC.
Once we're done with kids DH is getting a vasectomy.

GlitteryFluff · 26/12/2018 23:19

Watching with interest.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 26/12/2018 23:19

Mirena coil

I've finished my family and it has suited me well for the past 15 years since DC2 born

Its not particularly pleasant having it inserted but once inside it lasts 5 years

I only have very light periods while it's in which is an added bonus

224as · 26/12/2018 23:19

Mirena coil. No unpleasant side effects, no periods. Tried about 5 different pills before having this fitted which gave me AWFUL side effects. Very pleased with it.

sparkiess · 26/12/2018 23:19

Any experiences with patch/injection?

OP posts:
Mumof1andacat · 26/12/2018 23:20

Implant. No side effects. Occasionally bleeding but very light. No user error (forgetting to take it or take it late) not effected by illness (sickness or diarrhea) and 1 trip to gp every three years.

Bluebellsarebells · 26/12/2018 23:22

I was freaked out my the thought of an implant too, but once the swelling had gone down, I hardly think of it and can't feel it. Swelling was more to do with me having an allergic reaction to the plasters than the thing Itself.
It has been so worth it for me to control the symptoms I was having.
Flooded in the middle of a busy town whilst on a date of all things, with no warning. Other months I would suffer for a week before anything happened.
Thought of having a coil up there still makes me queasy.

IdblowJonSnow · 26/12/2018 23:23

Abstinence! My dh had the snip but never went for the follow up check! He has bought a kit online but it's still under the bed in it's packaging! He has no issue with using condoms but I hate them. Virtually dead from the waist down anyway these days. Sad

pumpkinpie01 · 26/12/2018 23:24

Mirena coil, no periods at all.

Ollivander84 · 26/12/2018 23:24

Copper coil

Pearlgrey1 · 26/12/2018 23:26

I’ve used the patch but it ended up having an allergic reaction to the glue and was always paranoid about getting it wet in the shower. Prior to having my DD I used the nuvaring didn’t have to remember to take anything daily and also can remove whenever.

Bluebellsarebells · 26/12/2018 23:28

I had the injection 3times, bled constantly for the first 3months.
Bled constantly for the 4th month after having second one.
Its a pain in the arse. Literally.
Site was always quite sore for a couple of days and it's a nightmare getting appointments at my GP, I avoid the place at all costs so having to go even 4 times a year was too much for me..
Maybe if I hadn't had the side effects or actually needed contraception to prevent pregnancy it would have felt worth it, but for me at the time. No.
Implant wins hands down in my experience. I

thighofrelief · 26/12/2018 23:38

Mirena coil is great, on the 3rd one. Copper coil went AWOL and got pg. I think that must have been a problem with the insertion though and could have happened with either coil.

Surprised I get on with the Mirena as hormonal methods normally turn me batshit.

BeekyChitch · 26/12/2018 23:42

Implant for 5 years now. Had around 3/5 periods in this time and the ones I get are very light. No side effects.
