At work in mud Dec (I'm nhs nurse in community) I was asked to drive to a local charity toy appeal place just before Christmas to pick up several bags of toys and clothes for needy local families. I was in a business park miles from shops etc. I was in the building 21 minutes.

Christmas Eve I ger letter...Parking eye have sent me a £100 Parking charge, reduced to £60 if I pay by 3rd Jan!

I do vaguely recall seeing signage but to be honest I'd never been there before and wasnt sure where I was going... no security
Barriers or meters etc. So I didn't pay much attention.

Have a got a leg to stand on to appeal?

Lots of threads about Aldi etc... but I was there 21 mins and was in the middle of very dull business park...
Help!! Gutted and so mad!

Appeal on what grounds?

Was it pay and display

Just pay

AlpacaLypse · 26/12/2018 22:24

Go to Money Saving Expert website. You'll get great advice there. Saved me £70 earlier this year.

StillIRise87 · 26/12/2018 22:25

Appeal. Parking eye are the only cowboys who actually go to court. Look on money saving expert for advice.

Appeal on grounds that I was there for legitimate business!
A bloody charity no less.
For underprivileged children and families at bloody Christmas!
I'd rather donate the money to the charity!!!

I don’t understand...why were you in a business park? Were you picking up the toys from a building there to take to a charity shop? If so, speak to the company you were visiting.

MSE are good for info on this. Whatever you do, do NOT admit to being the driver of the vehicle to Parking Eye.

Bottomplasters · 26/12/2018 22:31

It doesn’t matter you didn’t pay and display

sunnysunchild · 26/12/2018 22:31

There was no bloody pay and display!!!

In business park visiting the offices of the charity...picking up the bags of toys etc...
They couldn't deliver and we were asked to go pick them up.

There is a well renowned Facebook group called Fight your private parking invoice which will give you free advice and have letters for you to appeal. Parking Eye comes up a few times in there but the statistics for going to court are low compared to the number of tickets they issue.

It's worth an appeal.

sunnysunchild · 26/12/2018 22:34

Thanks slalomsuki
Gutted and feeling quite indignant!
I'll give it a shot

Contact the charity.
They may well be able to remove the charge for you.
I got a parking eye charge recently, at an Aldi supermarket. I contacted Aldi and explained that I had taken my elderly mother shopping there. With the evidence I provided, they were able to get the charge removed.
Good luck.

FoxInABox · 26/12/2018 22:36

Appeal- I’ve appealed a fine where we were only in the car park for ten minutes as my son had an accident and I stopped there to clean him up, not realising you had to pay. I’ve also appealed another from a different car park where one tyre was marginally over the line- I’m talking centimetres, due to how the car in the next bay was parked. I won both appeals- just give all the information you have given already here - including that you didn’t see the signs so didn’t realise it was pay and display etc, and mention that you will be writing to your MP. You could also find the actual owner of the car park and write to them also. For a ‘first offence’ and giving your reasons they should give some ‘goodwill’ and cancel the fine.

Over50andfab · 26/12/2018 22:37

Ok. So tell the charity. This would be your first port of Callander they might b3 able in intervene..

Perhaps all the people who work in the business park have parking permits. If so, what is the situation for visitors? It might be that it is the owners of the buildings that employ companies like Parking Eye to control parking.

sunnysunchild · 26/12/2018 22:41

I just hope the charity can help. They never mentioned a thing when were in with them.

It just seems outrageous!

I got one, recently. I called up the number (a few days later), and put in my reference number; only to be told that the reference number wasn't on their system (or some such).

I tried it a few more times and the automated voice kept saying the same thing.

MountPheasant · 26/12/2018 22:45

Contact the business you collected the gifts from, as you were there with their knowledge.

MummySharkDoDo · 26/12/2018 22:45

Appeal, I’ve won with parking eye. I didn’t enter my reg in the machine as I didn’t read the small print in the free parking sign and realise the rules had changed at a health centre. The machine was in another part of the health centre to where I had to go. They waived it quite quickly.
Before you appeal though check the signs and what they said. Do you fall within the use? Are they clear/ well displayed?

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2018 22:56

I had a Parking Eye fine earlier this year. I was also legitimately in the car park I was “ caught” in (out of town Starbucks).

  1. Don’t pay it, don’t contact Parking Eye
  1. Contact the charity, tell them what has happened. They should be able to contact Parking Eye to remove the number plates of anyone there on legitimate business. ie the people who work there!
  1. If 2. works, wait it out. Parking Eye send out letters more quickly than they read incoming email!
sunnysunchild · 26/12/2018 23:04

Thank you... I was hoping that there would be some hope for us..!
I have emailed the charity. Typically looks like No one around until after the holidays..

Btw I didn't see any kind of machine etc..

Twotome · 26/12/2018 23:16

Whatever you do, please don't listen to people that tell you it's not enforceable and to ignore the fine - that is rubbish.

Fingers crossed the Charity can waive the fine for you.
