Toddler with a suspected uti?

More of a WWYD, posting here for traffic.

My 2yr old may have a uti. (I have no experience of these, but she's complaining her bits hurt.) We're away staying with SIL, a bit in the middle of nowhere, and not home until the weekend.

How do l go about getting her seen when I'm miles away from home? Do l need to see someone, or will it pass on its own? Can it wait until Monday?

Please help, I'm clueless!

Dial 111 and theyll be able to advise.

Have you checked for worms? Their symptoms can be similar to a uti

A local walk in centre is your best option but do try and get a Urine sample beforehand it will certainly speed things up. I know this may be difficult but they’ll want one for sure. I wouldn’t wait til Monday if I were you, urine infections can be nasty I wouldn’t wanna wait all weekend to get one treated for myself :(

Phone 111 and get an appointment with an out of hours Dr. I personally wouldn't leave it, UTIs hurt. Lots of fluids in the meantime

CatulusLady78 · 26/12/2018 19:58

And make sure she drinks enough water

Cherries101 · 26/12/2018 20:01

Give her plenty of water. A lot of minor UTIs can resolve themselves through hydration. Call NHS direct for further advice.

Thanks for the advice, she's happily drinking loads of water so that's good.

Her bowels have just exploded and now she's perked right up. So it may be just a tummy bug not uti. I think I'll monitor tonight and if she's not improved phone 111 in the morning.

My DD was prone to UTIs as a toddler and I have to say none of them presented with her having sore bits. She had that often enough when she was first toilet trained & not wiping properly & we used sudocreme, same as we did for nappy rash. Do you have any of that to end?
The main symptoms of UTIs with her were frequent wees and it hurting when she wee'd. Keeping her full of liquids helped with that but it wasn't until she was on antibiotics that things improved.

111 and an emergency GP appointment if she doesn’t improve. My daughter ended up in A&E with sepsis when she was 6 with a UTI. She had no other symptoms other than her ‘bits hurt’ and then a temp. I had no idea what it was until she deteriorated. Hope she feels better soon and it’s not a UTI.

Read your update, but just to say - I've taken DD to out of hours doctors with a suspected UTI before, they do tend to move quite quickly and get them seen! I also second the advice to take a urine sample.

Our daughter, 3, had exactly same symptoms last Christmas, fine at lunch time sore by bed time, very sore when urinating next am, 111, walk in centre, loads of fluid to flush her out and a trip back on the afternoon to see if improved. Doesn't matter what she drinks as long as she drinks lots was what we were told
