I'm the UBER driver

In the past my nephew has said that his parents said that staying at our house was like staying at "a hotel" and today he said his parents said that me picking him up after an event was "like getting picked up by an UBER". I am his Aunt (wife of brother) and pick him up because I am his Aunt, and he stays at our house because he is our nephew. Anyway, I feel upset because I think they downplay our relationship, and reduce us to a service because they don't feel close to us and see us as family doing things because we love our nephew (which we do). I am not going to say anything but need to rant.

An ex friend described me as her taxi driver to her children. She wasn't joking. Not nice. Could she be jealous of you?

It depends how they say it. I had to have a word with one of my DDs about treating their very very lovely Aunt as a taxi driver because they were taking the piss out of her good nature.

Ask them for the Uber and hotel fees.see how that goes down x

It depends how it is said. I've said staying at my gran's is like staying at a hotel but it is meant and taken as a compliment. Her home is lovely, the guest room decorated like a beautiful room in a boutique hotel, there are posh toiletries in the en suite, she turns down the bed before I go up, the bed is so comfortable it's like sleeping on a cloud, breakfast is fantastic..

Depends on how they say it. My siblings often compare staying to mine as a hotel stay because we do everything up to and including childcare to allow them to chill. As DH is so reliable he’s often compared to Uber by my brother but it’s said in a complimentary way.

Thank you for all the lovely replies. I would like to think that it is meant as a compliment!

It could be that they're saying that their son is spoilt (in a good way) by you! You provide lovely accommodation and lifts and no wonder he likes it at your house!
