Very shamelessly posting here for traffic.

DD has been ill for about a week, nursery commented on her teariness at the end of last week but since being with PILs for Christmas at the weekend DD has been quite ill (not their fault, it's likely lack of sleep, excitement to the point she runs around and zaps the little energy she has then states off into space or cries the rest of the time). She's 17 mo, teething, coughing to the point she can't sleep, barely eating, will drink certain things to help her along but mainly wanting to be attached to me BFing. She is vomiting in occasion when coughing but she's now had a temp of at 38.5 consistently up and down all day managed with meds but at one point 39.3.

I need her to sleep to recover but she's coughing constantly, so far I've tried: hot bath, vapour rub, vaporiser, putting her on her front, letting her lay on my chest. Nothing is working! I know you are not doctors and I'm not asking for a diagnosis, I just need some handy mum tips.

Personally, I think I’d phone the out of hours GP service. Probably is just a bug or teething but at 17 mo. she can’t tell you what hurts.

Teething is a pain in the hole. Have you any teething gel for her gums? Also, try and make sure she’s not snotty (the little bulb things you get from the chemist or a saline nasal spray are great) as if she’s swallowing it she will be more likely to get sick. Try elevating the ‘head’ end of her cot to help any drainage, just an inch or two. Light layers so if she is too warm you can adjust clothing easily.

I’d phone the doctor though.

Hope she gets better soon!

Call nhs, if she’s coughing to the point she’s being sick she should be checked over

VimFuego101 · 26/12/2018 00:32

I agree, doctors would be good to make sure she doesn't need steroids or antibiotics.

WindyNeighbour · 26/12/2018 00:49

Ah yes, I've tried the teething stuff whenever she will let me.

I've made a note to get saline and a nasal aspirator in the morning as we're not in a position to just pop back for ours and I'm going to try Difflam too. As she's a cosleeper I have no other ideas on how to get her the rest she needs right now. I know they can have pillows from around now so I have tried propping her up and watching the monitor for her naps and that hasn't worked at all.

You need to get her medical attention right now. You can start by calling 111 who will blue light you in if necessary.

She’s coughing and vomiting, is lethargic and has a temperature which you can’t get under control with Calpol., isn’t eating or sleeping. You need to call 111 right now, those symptoms need examining urgently.
