AIBU to think Ticket to Ride is an utterly tedious game and to market the game we made up ourselves instead?

Seriously.
I bought it because it was so highly reviewed but it's so boring.
What do I do to get our family game marketed instead. It's really loads better and much much more engaging.

Ah, it’s one of our favourite games! We have several versions of it. Xmas Grin

Not sure how you go about getting a game marketed though. What’s your game about?

Pachyderm1 · 25/12/2018 21:57

I love ticket to ride!

What’s your game?

MrsFionaCharming · 25/12/2018 21:57

Most games now are crowd funded, take a look at some of the existing campaigns.

(But I disagree about Ticket To Ride!)

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 25/12/2018 22:00

Ticket to Ride is only boring if people don’t play strategically. You have to try to figure out what others are trying to build and fuck their plans up.

Goposie · 25/12/2018 22:02

We couldn’t even work out how to set it up!

Stompythedinosaur · 25/12/2018 22:32

I love this game.

I agree that if you are finding it tedious you probably aren't trying to block other players or gain enough tickets.

Try picking up extra tickets your first 2 turns (so you have 9 routes to start), that lives the game up a bit.

MissWilmottsGhost · 25/12/2018 22:41

Agree with Iamalways you need to fuck up other peoples routes as well as trying to complete your own. BIL is always scheming when he plays, so its extremely satisfying to gang up on him Grin

What makes you think your game is better?

PeaQiwiComHequo · 26/12/2018 00:32

many successful games get to market via kickstarter these days. you'd need to create info about your idea that was compelling enough to convince people to chip in, and work out how much money you need to create a first run. first runs are often just a smallish number of copies of the game and have some components done in a less-than-perfect way but if its a genuinely good game, that is sufficient to get people interested in joining a second larger-scale kickstarter to do a second run with better-constructed components and on a much larger scale. most games don't then go on to be commercially available in shops unless they are a runaway brilliant success. chances are after 2 kickstarters that everyone interested now has a copy. a few exceptions obviously.

But ticket to ride is brilliant! We got the nordic countries one for Christmas. But now I'm stuck on 2 night shifts so won't get to play until the 27th.

What's your game?

KC225 · 26/12/2018 02:30

I am with you OP. I bought the game last year for DH as everyone was raving about it on here but I think its quite dull. We played it a few times but went back to our favourites.

BrexitDestruction · 26/12/2018 02:39

We absolutely love it. We have so many different versions. It's brilliant.

ShannonRockallMalin · 26/12/2018 03:05

I love Ticket to Ride, but that’s because I’m a bit of a geek who finds both maps and railways fascinating (I’m also currently undertaking a 1000 piece jigsaw of the London Underground map Blush ). My DCs find it tedious though, so you are not alone.

ThePants999 · 26/12/2018 16:24

YANBU. People who enjoy Ticket To Ride simply haven't realised how much better other games are. I gave my copy away years ago.

PenelopeFlintstone · 27/12/2018 04:36

@ThePants999 - what are your favourite games? (I'm looking for some new ones.)
