We've had her for nine months so far. She's a 7/8 year old staffie. We As a family, have had staffies before so we were prepared for her being stubborn and strong. But honestly, she's been an absolute joy from day one. She has her foibles (like only going out on a walk if two out of the three of us is are with her, we are working on that). But she is such a pleasure to have in our home. All four of us have enjoyed a joyous Xmas day.

I'm so glad we adopted her, for us most, but for her too.

Sorry, I just felt a bit teary about dogs and cats who don't have a forever home

Aw that’s lovely. She’s lucky to have found such a lovely home where she is so loved.

Fluffyears · 25/12/2018 19:28

Yabu because you haven’t shown us a picture of her staff grin Wink

NatureGal · 25/12/2018 19:39

We need a picture op. That's lovely, I feel sad at all the ill-treated and homeless dogs too. Our two spaniel are amazing, love having them in our lives and so proud of how they adapted to our children and seem to love them.

user1471453601 · 25/12/2018 19:43

Id love to, but she won't stay still for even a quick snap. She's a brown and white brindle. And currently wearing a red and white scarf with Santa paws on it. She's such a little love. We are so lucky to have her, and she us. A really really good match. Well done, that rescue venture who matched us up

Aww that's lovely Xmas Smile. I was in bits when I saw this yesterday:

Hope that dog finds someone who loves them as much as you do yours!

housewifeoflittleitaly · 25/12/2018 19:52

How lovely, cherish her. My little dog died a few weeks ago and this is my first Christmas in 11 years without her... I am heartbroken.

hendal · 25/12/2018 19:53

I’m with you OP, feel very sad for the animals without decent homes and there always seem to be stories about abanondwd or neglected animals at this time of year.

I have a rescue greyhound. He’s 8, we got him just over 2yrs ago. I couldn’t be without him. He’s very quiet and sooo lazy! Is enjoying his 3rd Christmas in his usual fashion, has slept most of the day except when we walked him before dinner - he was disgusted with us Grin

I grew up with a staffie cross, she was a rescue (dumped at about 3months of age, was found at the local top scavenging & taken to RSPCA where we found her & got her home ASAP!). I’ve never known a dog like her, she was lovely. Absolutely adored kids and was so friendly. Was a lunatic also, will never forget her running mad around the garden. Lovely beast.

whiskyremorse · 25/12/2018 19:55

What a lovely post. Happy holidays x

cazinge · 25/12/2018 19:57

I feel the same. We have had ddog (a Terrier X rescue) for 6 years, she's about 8 now. When DS arrived earlier this year, I couldn't have asked for better, she adores him & the feeling is mutual. There was food, presents & lots of people today & she was good as gold. She will always be my first baby.

TheDogsMother · 25/12/2018 19:58

What a lovely post. Our Parson Jack Russell is 14 years old today. He's getting a little bit slower now but still a little bugger. I get so emotional about dogs (or any animals) treated badly or without a home.

user1471453601 · 25/12/2018 20:26

It's all a bit odd. I've had dog and or cats all my ife, but now at 68 I have a dog who just melts my heart. She's not even "my dog", although we all live together. Her person is my DD. Although D D out most of the day DDwalks in ( in fact Dog recognizes dds car when she pulls up), dog goes unnecessary. We call her DDsuttkr

Lovely post OP, so glad you found each other.

We adopted a greyhound 4 months ago and he’s an absolute joy. Wouldn’t be without him.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 25/12/2018 20:44

Awww YANBU at all. I adore my three dogs.

One is currently laying on the floor having made herself a nest out of blankets and cushions. My pensioner boy is snoring in the corner of the sofa, and my new rescued boy has conked out next to him and using the pensioner's bum as a head cushion. I luffs them absolutely.

Shivs123 · 25/12/2018 20:55

I love this post! Our staffy is two years old, we bought her when we lived in Australia and had to come back to the UK when she was 10 months old, first thing we booked was her flight! She has settled in here so well and I've had so many of my friends say "oh I was terrified of staffies but she's just lovely"

I'm so glad you rescued your girl, there are way too many staffies in shelters and knowing she is so loved is lovely!

bobstersmum · 25/12/2018 20:57

Yanbu. We've only had our dog since July and we rescued him too, he's a jrt and he's adorable, happy happy chappy, he was so overly excited at his Xmas doggy stocking this morning, and his new giant comfy pillow.

Loulou0 · 25/12/2018 21:02

Love this post OP. I am desperate to adopt a staffie but because we have a 2.5 year old this is proving difficult.

YouSmellOfBeefAndCheese · 25/12/2018 21:06

Staffies have such a bad reputation but they are such loving and loyal dogs. Mine was fab I loved him more than most people

Sleepyhead11 · 25/12/2018 21:10

She sounds wonderful.

I loved my parents' dog when I was growing up. As a solitary child on the autistic spectrum I found NV communication easier and she was my best friend, a lovely gentle girl who would run for miles after my bike. They're wonderful creatures.

My DP has a cat now, and I am often surprised by the love I feel for this little animal when I wake to find him purring on the end of the bed. He too is a beautiful and gentle boy (although murderous with moths.)

I am glad you love her. I am sure she loves you.

Athena51 · 25/12/2018 21:32

Aw, that's lovely. I have my darling cat that I love more than I love many people, he's the best.

I was watching the Paul O' Grady dog programme earlier and all those poor dogs needing homes made me so sad though it's always uplifting when they find someone to love them and look after them.

MimsyBorogroves · 25/12/2018 21:38

Staffies will wrap their way around your entire heart. I'm trying to find a second one at the moment. My favourite breed.

Banana8080 · 25/12/2018 21:54

We have a 4 year old staffie and oh my word we LOVE HER! she’s so funny, she loves us soooooooooo much and is just a delight. Her love is intense.

And she even saved her dog walker from a serious attack from a huskie, I was pretty darn proud.

Dogs get a bad rep on here but I’m 100% in agreement with you x

Howtodeal · 25/12/2018 21:54

Dogs are the best! Mine is also a rescue and she is currently snoozing on the sofa next to me happily sighing to herself. She was overjoyed to get presents earlier, just so happy to be included. She's so grateful for everything bless her and we are so grateful for her, we feel so lucky we found her.

All dogs should be snoozing on a sofa on Christmas day. I was at my local rescue earlier and they are bursting at the seams, so many dogs get abandoned in the run-up to Christmas, it's heartbreaking and their people should be ashamed of themselves. Dogs are family, and family means no-one gets left behind.

lilyheather1 · 25/12/2018 22:02

YANBU! DH and I added a second spaniel to our family early December and decided we wouldn't do Christmas presents in lieu of this. I love our new addition and she is getting on with her big sister wonderfully. Can't imagine a Christmas without lots of dogs running around! X
