Single lady ring?

Like an engagement ring on the other hand? For pledging allegiance to ones own singleness and committing to self growth, self preservation and the single life?

Aka an excuse for some sparkle?

Miss wearing an engagement ring but do not miss being in a relationship one bit, just the hand jewellery

So just get a ring. Why does it have to mean anything?

TrippingTheVelvet · 25/12/2018 16:26

Why don't you get a traditional claddagh. If you wear it on your right hand it means you're single.

Llareggub · 25/12/2018 16:27

I'm single. I wear stuff because I like it. Why does something have to mean something?

WonderWoman2019 · 25/12/2018 16:28

Where whatever hand jewellery you like! Absolutely no need for any relationship symbolism!

x2boys · 25/12/2018 16:29

Agree why does it have to.mean anything ? If you want a lovely ring go for it !

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 16:30

Yeah might just get a ring. Something ostentatious looking but fairly inexpensive me thinks

Real though so I don't have to take it off every half hour when There's something to clean or wash up

WhatsUpHun · 25/12/2018 18:17

sorry what?

why do you need to proclaim your singleness? plenty of people dont wear any jewellery to tell the world what their relationship status is....

For pledging allegiance to ones own singleness and committing to self growth, self preservation and the single life? Hmm

WhatsUpHun · 25/12/2018 18:18

oh, and no one will know what it is unless you tell them - so it wont work for its intended purpose will it

Thehop · 25/12/2018 18:18

My friend wears what we’re her engagement ring and what should have been her wedding ring on her right hand. Both very sparkly

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 18:19

It's on an old episode of weeds she gets an Engagement ring for her right hand

Thought it was a nice idea and a bit of fun

I've also met someone IRL who had one and thought why not? Lol

This is/was a thing. (Mostly dreamed up by jewellers to sell more jewellery), called a right hand ring! I think it’s the middle finger of your right hand... a solitaire or similar to say ‘I’m not engaged but I am independent and can buy my own bling!’

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 18:24

@Thingsthatgo I know it's made up money making non sense but they market that stuff to someone saps like me obviously 🙈

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 25/12/2018 18:27

Go for it and apply whatever significance you want. I was having a shite old time of things when I turned 40 and decided to treat myself to a special ring (not bling but locally handcrafted renowned jeweller) to prove to myself that I was bloody worth nice things and I could buy them myself. I wear it on my right hand on the ring finger and it means more to me than any other piece of jewellery I own.

Awittyusernameishardtofind · 25/12/2018 18:28

I thought you were supposed to get lots of cats when you decide to be single forever

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 18:29

I've got 2 soon to be 3 kids (pregnant) and am allergic to cats so some bling seems more attainable and lower maintenance!

Awittyusernameishardtofind · 25/12/2018 18:33

You could get one of the bald ones Grin

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 18:34

Or some budgies or fish 😂

I love the idea tbh! It doesn’t have to be a proclaimation to anyone else but the fact you’d know the meaning behind it and the fact you don’t have to wait for someone to present you with an engagement ring to get a lovely sparkle of your own. It’s lovely I’ve wanted to for ages because I love engagement rings!

Thingsthatgo · 25/12/2018 18:56

I’m not anti it btw (I’m a jeweller!). I buy and make my own bling for any and all fingers. I love diamonds with a passion and own as many (conflict free)!as I can!! My advice would be to try to buy secondhand. Either from a shop or eBay. A certificate is a good idea if you’re buying a diamond because the colour and clarity make a huge difference to the fire (rainbow coloured sparkles).

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 25/12/2018 19:01

Sounds like a fantastic reason to get a bit of bling. Any ideas about what you'd like? A dress ring would be lovely but possibly a bit high in the setting for everyday wear? What's your favourite stone?

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 19:03

I think a diamond might be a bit pricy if I want something big
Would like something with a yellow or blue stone maybe? Men in the past have bought me red stones, or clear ones like diamonds or cubic zirconias

I think second hand is definitely the way to go
I'd love to give it to my DD when she's older in the same way people hand down other family jewellery

Like, you were raised by a single mother not a marriage but that doesn't mean you don't have heritage ?

I'm probably most definitely a bit of a feminist

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 19:04

I'm googling stones now 🙈
