eBay! So annoyed!

Does anyone have experience with eBay? I’m so annoyed, all I wanted was to get rid of some stuff easily for next to nothing and it just seems to get harder and harder Angry

Registered a new account as although I had one years ago, I probably haven’t used it for nearly a decade and couldn’t remember any login details.

Listed some items, all on one listing as it was several of the same thing. Attached my paypal account which I’ve had and use regularity since 2005.

First the listing was removed because they wanted to check some details. Annoying, but ultimately easily resolved.

Sold two of my items yesterday. I get an email saying I need a PayPal business account before I get paid?! Wtf? Nowhere does it say that when you either a) set up your eBay account or b) connect your PayPal account.

PayPal doesn’t make it clear whether you can convert your personal account to a business account and still use it personally. But then if I set it up as a new account, then I’ve been paid to the wrong account?!

Also, the money (all £8 of it) is now held till 21 Jan. Over a month. Which I get, as I have a new account, but my PayPal account isn’t new, and it doesn’t actually explicitly say ‘send your stuff now’.

Sorry for the Xmas day rant, but DH has annoyed me, my sister’s presents all got smashed in the post, and I know I shouldn’t but I feel terribly guilty that my mum was incredibly generous and I haven’t really been able to this year.

No need to reply, it’s cathartic to write it all down!

That all sounds standard and normal if you're new to selling on eBay. The funds will be held until the item is sent, it's all fraud protection which is universal across been sellers, it's not restricted to how much an item is worth.

But you don't need a business PayPal account to get paid via eBay. Did you set up an eBay business selling account or a private one?

It's standard if you're new to selling on eBay. It happened to me, and i understand why they do it because there are a lot of dodgy sellers on there. Smaller transactions tend to come through to me straight away, but I had a hold placed on an item selling at over £40. All I had to do was provide tracking info and the money was released.

I've never needed a business account to selll on ebay and i've been selling for years. Either they've changed it recently or you've accidentally set up as a business seller on ebay, have a look in your settings.

I do understand all the fraud prevention, as I said. But it would be helpful if any of it was mentioned before you set up the account. If I provide tracking details it basically means selling at a loss, what's the point of that? I might as well just charity shop the items. I can wait till the end of Jan, but it doesn't mention it when you set up the account!

I'm set up as a Personal seller not a business seller. I've linked my accounts several times as well but checking in settings it needed doing again.

This is partly the reason I stopped buying and selling on eBay. It was just too much hassle for not much return.

Sorry I meant to respond to this again and forgot. When I sell on eBay, I use their print postage service because it automatically adds a tracking number even for basic postage. One of my buy it now items is sent by second class at the price of a large letter which is 79p. When I print it out, eBay automatically assigns it dispatched with a number added to the tracking section. I think it's basically the same as the certificate of posting you get from a post office when you go in. There's usually a alphanumeric reference that you can enter into the Royal Mail tracking section to find out if something has been delivered. It's not the same as recorded, you will only be told that it's been delivered, and that's it.

I was pretty frustrated with the situation myself when I first realised I had to jump through a few hoops, but I understand why. If you don't have a printer and need to post something via the post office, asking for proof of postage will give you that reference number to put in the tracking field.
