AIBU to not go to A and E on Xmas Eve for this?

My daughter shut her finger in a door yesterday. The nail has turned black but the finger is warm and she can move it. Says it hurts a bit so has had calpol.

In two minds whether to take her to A and E.

Firstly I don't think it's an emergency, and especially with skeleton staff we could be taking up the time they could be using for actual emergencies.

Secondly (and probably selfishly) I don't want to spend Christmas Eve in A and E!

Anyone whose children have had similar injuries did the nail just fall off and grow again? I'm not actually sure what can be done anyway. Thanks!

Minor injuries units are worth their weight in gold imo. Ours is open from 8am - 8 or 9 pm, and they treat all sorts, including straightforward fractures.

When we had very snowy and icy conditions a few years ago, it was a godsend. The staff came in early, expecting it to be busy, and it was packed, but I don't think anyone had to wait more than an hour or two to be seen. If it hadn't been available, the paramedics and A&E would have been run off their feet (the local taxi companies were refusing to do any non-local journeys, so for people who couldn't drive themselves or get a lift, an ambulance was the only way of getting there).

Our minor injuries has x-ray equipment just the same as a and e. I work in a and e and it's just a normal day for us, as is tomorrow, no shorter staffed than any other day. Long long waits to be seen though. Be prepared for at least 4-6 hour wait here today, will get longer as the day goes on.
