To not buy my 7yo ds a LOL Doll for Christmas

Because they look proper shit?! I'm starting to twitch. He asked for one last year and didn't get one for the same reason. It was on his list to Santa with some other stuff. Have got all the other stuff...but he's just gone to bed mentioning that he really hopes he gets one this year ! Do I try and get one tomorrow?! Argh...

No, don't. It's perfectly fine for kids not to get everything they ask for.

SatsumaFan · 23/12/2018 23:37

@bridgetreilly exactly. He's written two lists (one for us and a letter to Santa) and he's getting 80% of what's on them. I've always reminded the kids that they're just a wish list and it's unlikely you'll get everything on there.

So was hoping he'd forgotten all about the sodding LOL Dolls but he mentioned them tonight, and I remembered he did actually have them on his wish list last year too! He will be getting money and vouchers for the local toy shop too, so said to dh if he really still wants one after Christmas I'll take him to buy one.

But now I'm twitching....

I agree that it's ok if they don't get everything they asked for. Mine have got 1 or 2 things from their (quite short but often changing) lists, a few books and a couple of other craft type bits. Mind you, they do have birthdays not long after Xmas so I do hold things in reserve that they've asked for at the last minute and I'm not that convinced by, then if they are still coveting it come January then I might crack.

Any chance he'll get some Xmas money and can buy one for himself? Might have fun shopping for and choosing one.

Seriously though. I know it might bring great joy. But I don't think you absolutely HAVE to get this as a last minute gift, provided you've got at least something else he's asked for!

Rosti1981 · 23/12/2018 23:39

Yep, just seen your update. Money and vouchers, that's perfect. He can enjoy choosing his own then.

SatsumaFan · 23/12/2018 23:42

@Rosti1981 my kids' birthdays are in January too Smile Yes he's got some money coming.

If I can get dh to take them swimming tomorrow afternoon then I'll nip up to the toy shop and see if they have them. If not, I'll try not to stress as know he's going to love his books, Lego, Nerf guns etc!

Can you choose LOL Dolls? I thought they were a surprise/blind thing?

HollySwift · 23/12/2018 23:47

For play value, I actually don’t think they’re that shit at all. It’s a tenner, and most of the DC who have/like them (including my own) seem to get hours of joy from them, what’s not to like?

TwiceAsNice22 · 23/12/2018 23:52

Get him one! I’m biased though and love them as much as my kids. My girls play with them for hours. So, even thought they are expensive they are worth it.

Gemz1806 · 23/12/2018 23:54

I got my ds 3 one for his stocking. I got the tube one at £15 as it has a few wee extra bits in it. I know he will be delighted! Its on his list and spent alot of time looking at the lol pages in the smyths book! Just go for it! If he's asked two years in a row, its not just a fad gift, he really does want one.

TwiceAsNice22 · 23/12/2018 23:55

You can’t choose which one you get but they have different types like little sisters or pets (be warned that the pets come with magic sand) some times you get twins in a set - which my twins loved! They come with lots of accessories like bottles, shoes or bags.

Random18 · 23/12/2018 23:57

My DD wants the dolls house. No way is she getting it. It’s the biggest load of shit ever. She got money from my mum for her birthday and she dragged me to Smyths and bought a surprise thing. It did take her ages to open it and she did love it but such a waste of money

JustThisTimeAgain · 24/12/2018 00:01

For everyone saying they look shit...that's because you're not their target market only your credit card is. It doesn't matter what you think of the item as long as it isn't dangerous and you can afford it then why not buy it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

HippoLatte · 24/12/2018 00:05

The lil sisters aren't too dear at £5 odds each. DD actually prefers those so she's got 3 of them for xmas along with an under wraps and the shell one. She plays with them for hours so I don't mind buying them as a treat.

Furiousatlife25 · 24/12/2018 00:06

My daughter would love some for Xmas but it’s a firm no from me and I hardly say no to anything 😂
I think they are absolute shit and not to add they remind me of mini hookers ! ( not all but a fair amount of them )
We have Lottie dolls and she loves them

Furiousatlife25 · 24/12/2018 00:07

Also the whole 10 pound isn’t bad but it doesn’t really stop there and each new wave is dearer than the last and you can’t choose which you get so I think 12-15 pound each on what you can double off is a lot as it won’t stop at 1 😂

Picknickers · 24/12/2018 00:44

Got them for my nieces despite thinking they're crap. They love them and have constantly played with them for nearly a year. As a PP said they're for kids not you!

SatsumaFan · 24/12/2018 08:32

Oh yeah, I totally get that they're for kids! Mine are coming up 8 and 5 so I've had my fair share of buying plastic tat. I've come to learn what's good and what's not, and from what I've heard from friends lol dolls aren't great. They just look so tacky and garish too ! We've bought Zomblings, Stikeez and Shopkins and other little plastic figures in the past (and have trays of them) and they never get played with. At least they weren't as expensive.

Buuut I will try my best to get a couple today for their stockings Smile

Ansumpasty · 24/12/2018 08:56

Harsh, why wouldn’t you get him one. Don’t be a meanie

When I was little, my mum did not get me things she disapproved of. It did me no lasting harm, and probably some good.
But I can just remember, all those years ago, that in my childish mind I was bitterly, bitterly, disappointed.

JudasPrudy · 24/12/2018 13:53

Did you get his LOL doll?

Jimdandy · 24/12/2018 14:07

Yes yabu yes they’re tat but it’s £10 get him one cats bum mouth!!!

SatsumaFan · 24/12/2018 23:02

An LOL Glitter surprise doll ball thing is safely nestled in each stocking Smile I shall report back on the reaction tomorrow if I remember!

madeyemoodysmum · 24/12/2018 23:22

Ahhhhhh cute surprise

SatsumaFan · 25/12/2018 08:53

He loves them! Younger ds didn't want his so they traded...turned out that was a rare one so ds is extra chuffed! He did actually say "I asked Santa for one of these last year when I was nearly 7, I wondered why he made me wait until I was nearly 8?" Whoops!

Thanks for the advice all - you've made a small boy very happy!

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile
