I’m thinking of going on holiday to a Eurocamp resort next year. I’m really worried we’ll pick a rubbish park and be really disappointed. Looking for somewhere we can drive to, using any port or Chunnel.
Somewhere hot, and with water slides and clubs for two children who will be 11 and 7.
We went to Florida last year so it’ll be a tough act to follow (even though it did rain nearly every day). If you have had any really bad or really good Eurocamp trumps, please could you tell me, my head is fried from looking through the brochure!

Eurocamp trumps? Hmm Eurocamp trips I meant. Grin

We went to the one near Paris a couple of years ago, and I definitely wouldn’t return to the camp. On site activities were ok, but the older teens got a bit bored. Food on site was awful, but there was a supermarket near by, but no local places to dine.
Location wise, it was ok. Plenty of things to do outside the camp, Paris, Disney, and the Merlin Castle.

We didn’t find the Eurocamp staff very helpful either. The first home were given was flooded in the front garden bit, and they wanted us to wade through 3 inches of water to get into the home. Took hours to get a different one. We had an executive home, but found it damp and cold, with little room.

That said, I know others who’ve enjoyed it there, so maybe we just had a bad experience?!

(Definitely not as good as Center Parcs)

Sanguli campsite. You would have to fly though..it's 15minutes from the airport. I recommend booking with the campsite directly rather than via eurocamp. They have better accommodation.

Forgottenmypassword · 23/12/2018 09:29

We went to Camping Weekend in Lake Garda this year. Didn't book through eurocamp but essentially the same thing. Beautiful location and the kids loved it, I'd recommend it as a site and we would go back again. We flew out and hired a car, but met a family there who drove via France and Switzerland I think.

NonaGrey · 23/12/2018 09:32

We’ve never had a bad Europeans experience and have used them a lot.

I should note that we’ve never used the clubs or on camp activities though (other than the pools).

If you overnight ferry to St Malo you can get quite far south within 5/6 hrs drive. Can't remember the name of the region but I'd start by deciding how far you are willing to drive then focus on that area.

Then probably look at the big parcs as they will have the better water parks etc and likely to have more for older kids.

Then pick a few you like the sound of and start a spreadsheet / table that sums up what's important - so a column for activities, on-site dining, shops (use a google search on campsite location to see where nearest supermarket is / big towns / beaches - don't trust the Eurocamp website!) that saves you going round in circles and forgetting which ones are which.

Then make sure you check against TripAdvisor - we were about to spend 3.5k on 2 weeks in 2019 and at the last minute saw fairly unanimous reviews that it was mosquito hell so did a frantic back pedal!

Then take your top 3 and look direct at accommodation available plus some will have their own kids clubs and are usually much cheaper.

We have found Yelloh campsites to be better. But then we have stayed in a lot more of them than Eurocamp ones.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 23/12/2018 09:55

Years ago, I used to work for eurocamp. I've been to loads of their sites. Check out le vieux port near Biarritz. I think it might fit the bill.

Boysnme · 23/12/2018 09:57

We have been to Duinrell in Amsterdam. They have a theme park and indoor water park - my kids were 7 & 5 when we first went and we are going back next year a few years older. Not sure on kids clubs as we never looked at them but there was certainly plenty to do. We also took the train to Rotterdam and did the zoo for a day.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 23/12/2018 10:07

Ah fab, thank you for these. I shall look for them in my brochure x

Duinrell is a great site. Not necessarily hot though. Being Holland etc. I worked for Eurocamp as a courier in the Ardeche and have also been on a zillion of their holidays. Have a look at La Pointe St Gilles in Benodet. Had a lovely car-free walk to the town and gorgeous beach. What sort of time of year are you thinking?

FraterculaArctica · 23/12/2018 19:34

Our kids are younger and we flew rather than drove but we went to Esterel near Nice last year and had a great time. Depends if you're willing to drive that far.

turkeyboots · 23/12/2018 19:39

Love Eurocamp, have been going since I was a child. But you have to go way south for good weather. And that's a long drive. Brittany is lovely, but more Cornwall than Florida.

WhatsUpHun · 23/12/2018 19:44

we went to the one in Brittany last year, it was ok, we were in a caravan (large) www.eurocamp.co.uk/campsites/brittany/bn011-chateau-de-galinee/ataglance.html

the cafe was not open much, which was annoying

get the biggest you can afford, rather than for the size you need,
pool was included in this one, you need to check if you have bought from the park or from a private rental

Wifi pretty non existant, and also the mobile signals were pretty shit as well

PositiveVibez · 23/12/2018 19:49

We went to leave deux fontaines a couple of years ago which was amazing.

I booked directly with the site though and saved £££'s.

Loved it, but as pp said, weather was quite British.

We are going to go further south next year.

Hmmmbiscuits · 23/12/2018 19:51

I have been to Le Vieux Port last year.

We had a good time. The pool and beach were nice. We went out of season, so not a huge amount of entertainment and went via Spain. The accomodation is a bit dated, but didn't bother us. There is a lovely town nearby with a market with friendly locals and the region is very pretty.

One thing I would say is the food is very expensive! There is a reason the French are rioting. If you are taking your car, take some basics with you.

cantbeb0thered · 23/12/2018 19:53

I second Yelloh being better.

Hmmmbiscuits · 23/12/2018 19:54

I agree with what people have said about booking direct. The accommodation looked a lot better and it's apparently cheaper. Another thing is most sites get pretty busy high season, so not ideal if you like peace and quiet.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 23/12/2018 19:55

We were at Sanguli this summer and had a fab time. It was cheaper to book direct

apintofharpandapacketofdates · 23/12/2018 19:56

Another strong preference for Yelloh. Port de Plaisance in Benodet is around 2 hrs from Roscoff.
Really family friendly and not overly hot.

Chesterado · 23/12/2018 19:59

We went to Playa Montroig near salou I'm Northern Spain with Canvas this year and loved it - lots of Eurocamp options there too. We flew but there were people there who had driven.

Catsize · 23/12/2018 20:03

For those raving about Yelloh!, Eurocamp operate at many Yelloh! sites. And also offer the ferry packages and general support in the case of a problem. As a courier, I took people to the GP, dogs to vets etc. Sometimes in the middle of the night. And I helped with floods. For about 20p an hour. 😂

HollowTalk · 23/12/2018 20:03

We went to a few sites in France using Matthews - they were much cheaper than EuroCamp and on the same sites.

Buster72 · 23/12/2018 20:03

Frejus. Near nice, e drove took 2 days but great place

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 23/12/2018 20:49

Thanks all, food for thought 👍🏽
