Codeine / Nurofen Plus use

My husband has been using Nurofen Plus to deal with stress. He reckons he doesn't take many but I have noticed strange behaviour recently. He seems to completely zone out, like he is in a different place in his head and it is hard to get his attention.

AIBU to think you don't get that sort of change just by taking 3 or 4 as he claims? And how can I help him? He won't go to the doctor. Can I go on his behalf? Worried it is now proper codeine addiction

I take ibuprofen and codine for period pain. It's not for regular use -3 days max.
It most definitely gives you a zoned out, drunk feeling if you take too many. I took 2 quickly followed by another 2 (I was in a rush, on autopilot and 'forgot' I'd already taken them). I felt really lightheaded. Not a good feeling.

Stopping codiene can make you feel quite ill if you have been on it a a while, so maybe he is taking it to combat those symptoms.

I don't want to scare you OP, but there are studies that state there is a link between prolonged ibuprofen use and heart attacks, It's not a drug you should take constantly unless under a GP, yes it's available over the counter, but too much of any one thing is not good for you.

My ex was rushed to hospital in an ambulance from the gp's after going there with stomach pain.

It was an burst ulcer from taking too many nurofen. He had used them to substitute for alcohol.

I think he now has to take stomach tablets permanently because of the damage.

I have a feeling he's still taking them
On and off.

He was also be dazed and just slightly 'off' after having taken them.

Not the first medication I'd think of for dealing with stress. Is is recommended for that then? The codeine element I can appreciate but Ibuprofen content would put the frighteners up me for long term use.
