To worry that I have a brain tumor??

Firstly I do realise that I should go to the Dr's. And I definitely am next week but in the meantime I am just wondering if anybody has had these symptoms or similar Shock

  • I'm in my 30's, started getting aura migraines (without the headache) at age 30. Have had about 4 in total on average once a year.
  • Waking up in the night to full on hallucinations of very random and vivid things. I am aware that it's happening and aware that it's an hallucination. Has happened approx 6 nights in the last year.

-Weird visual disturbances, flashing lights etc.

-Recently I awoke at about 4am to the strongest burning smell, lasted a minute or so and then stopped.

-Memory loss with minor things.
-Strange de ja vu feelings, along with what I assume is anxiety feelings.

-Sometimes wake up during the night with a black spider like ball in the centre of my vision. No amount of blinking gets rid of it.

AIBU to freak out?? Could these symptoms be mental health related? They seem too physical and unusual to be a product of stress or anxiety.

Thanks for reading, anyone experienced anything similar and it turned out just fine? Confused

That must be worrying OP. My Dad had a brain tumour. Symptoms were loss of co ordination, feeling like his skin was crawling, hallucinations he didn't realise weren't real, severe headaches 24/7 & poor vision. (According to the GP the biggest red flag is 24/7 agonising headache with co ordination & vision probs) .

I have the flashing multicoloured lights migraine without the pain. Very disconcerting, but harmless. Had it checked in the Eye Hospital.

As for your other symptoms, they may be stress related.

Sounds a bit like what I have, the visual migraine without the pain. Hope you will be ok.

Get it checked out at eye hospital. They are very reassuring.

Well, gp does sound a good idea. Perhaps they will check for epilepsy? Or the migraines are producing similar symptoms to epilepsy? Brain tumour for my sister was appalling headaches, confusion, projectile vomiting.

Yes I’d agree with the lady above ^^

My dad has a brain tumour and the symptoms were sleeping 23+ hours a day and thinking things were there that weren’t.

JustDanceAddict · 22/12/2018 18:45

main symptom of the person I know who had one was excruciating headaches. I don’t think he had the confusion though.

LittleMissNaice · 22/12/2018 18:47

Look up hypnopompic and hypnagogic hallucinations, OP, and see if that explains at least some of it

My Dad has a brain tumour, his symptoms were sudden onset of lack of coordination and confusion, and slurred speech. We all thought he had had a stroke. He had no headaches strangely. As the tumour progressed he saw things that weren’t there, but didn’t realise they weren’t real.

DH had never had migraines in his life then started getting horrendous ones about 5 years ago. Stopped caffeine and now absolutely fine unless he has coffee. Would still recommend going to GP though

Sorry that should have said “my Dad HAD a brain tumour”

Birdsgottafly · 22/12/2018 19:01

I, like a pp had the headache and vision issues, got them checked, my levels for everything was low.

The rest I've had during the Menopause and a lot you can get during pregnancy, so they can be hormonal.

My DH had a brain tumor, he too mirrored the symptoms of a stroke, but slept a lot as well. He also had excess saliva.

I have also heard of similar symptoms bring TIAs.

If the GP does, your blood pressure ask for sitting and standing.

Thank you all, I think I am over reacting with regards to it being a brain tumor, but Google has a way to terrify you Sad ...I didn't think of epilepsy but am going to read up on it. When the hallucinations happen I am fully aware that they are not real, but I seem to just stare at them with my mouth half open and feel a bit disconnected. I don't really get headaches so that's a good sign.
