To think M&S should have made the bloody box big enough??

Visiting relatives tomorrow and I bought them a hamper from M&S - wine, chocs and a plant. Fully expected the hamper to be self-enclosed in a box so I could just present it to them like that. But it’s just arrived and the box is way too small! The wine and plant are too tall for the box so there’s no way you can put the lid on. I know this relative is planning to open presents on Christmas Day so I wanted it sealed. DH suggested wrapping the huge cardboard box it came in but a) the box really is huge and it will look like a bloody joke present for what is meant to be a token gift to open on the day, and b) I don’t have enough wrapping paper. We’re leaving early tomorrow and I really can’t be arsed to go the shops now. Any ideas????

Cellophane?

LittleLongDog · 22/12/2018 18:27

Place the lid on top at an angle and wrap it all as an awkward shaped present?

SlowDown76mph · 22/12/2018 18:27

Just wrap the wine and plant separately...

Large gift bag, and fill the sides with tissue paper.

MilkyCuppa · 22/12/2018 18:29

If you wrap it in paper the plant will be dead by Xmas due to lack of light and water.

You should be able to pick them
up at any shop on your way tomorrow

I’m starting to think this wasn’t such a good present idea after all GrinBlush

Just give it to her unwrapped as a hosting gift.

Gina2012 · 22/12/2018 18:37

I like that idea @Cherries101

Got any fabric or a paper tablecloth? Plonk it on and gather up around it with a bit of ribbon?

bridgetreilly · 22/12/2018 18:42

Tbh, I would never have expected a hamper to come in a box at all. The hamper is the container. Why would it need another box to go in?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 22/12/2018 19:01

put the wine and chocs in a gift bag or wrap separately, or leave in the original box laid down and wrap the box, give the plant as you arrive as a hosting gift.

The cheaper ones don’t have a wicker hamper, the hamper’s made of card.
Thanks everyone - I’m trying a few different options now!!

Plant and bottle as separate gifts to the hamper?
