Calling all beauticians/HD brow artist AIBU?

I had my brows HDed on Thursday. Reputable salon been there for HD before.

She dyed them then put the wax on top of the brow and removed with the strip then spread the wax on my lower brows and announced that she had no strips and had to pop and get some from downstairs.

She left me 5 or so minutes with the wax on my lower brows.

When she came back and removed the wax it was really painful, unusually so.

She said that I’d had a bad reaction as I must have some dry skin. I’ve got very oily skin and have never suffered with dry patches.

The underneath of my brows are red scaly and very painful. They were weeping on Thursday evening.

Could this be due to leaving the wax on longer than usual? I don’t like to complain but I don’t think this is right.

I’ll post pics if it helps.

This is the slightly worse one but they’re both very painful and unsightly.

Not a beautician but that does not look normal. I have dry/sensitive skin and always get red after waxing but it goes down within about 30 minutes. I would return to salon and complain.

sirmione16 · 22/12/2018 17:29

Omg it looks like she's taken skin off to me! That's not just a bit of inflammation or redness like normal! I'd definitely go back and complain, definitely not normal. In the mean time, some sudocrem or Vaseline may help soothe it and don't put make up on over it

sirmione16 · 22/12/2018 17:30

PS I have eczema and obviously very dry skin all on my face, often have my eyebrows waxed and this does not happen.

darkparadise1 · 22/12/2018 17:32

That is really bad and not normal! I'd go in or email the photo you've posted and see what they suggest. I'd at least be looking for my money back to be honest.

SnaccidentsHappen · 22/12/2018 17:33

Beauty therapist here 🙋🏻‍♀️ she should never have left it that long, it defo looks like some skin has been removed with the wax, she would have known straight away that this has happened.

Depends how you want to play this but I would defo be wanting a refund, she has caused you an injury.

Dottysmum18 · 22/12/2018 17:33

Trained beauty theatpist here yes leaving the wax on for 5 mins would have allowed it to cool and adear to your skin it has taken the top layers of your skin off and will probably scab soon . The bollocks about dry skin is just trying to cover her mistake
Defiantly complain was bad practice on her part she should have ensured that she had all the equtment she needed and unless the salon she works in is 3 floors it shouldn't have taken that long to get strips

ihatehoney · 22/12/2018 17:34

Shit! That looks painful OP😣 I'm sorry that happened. Obviously you didn't have a reaction- she neglected to care for you properly and left the wax on for too long! Deffo complain and leave a review with that pic, I wouldn't want to go somewhere like that. They're clearly not prepared for each client.

Parsley1234 · 22/12/2018 17:35

Beauty therapist here - your skin has been either burnt or the therapist has not used enough care taking off the wax.
It will scab over and be fine but you will always need to take care having it done now

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 22/12/2018 17:48

Thank you everyone for your responses. It’s comforting to know that this isn’t acceptable. I can be a bit of a pushover when it comes to not complaining but I feel justified in doing so now.

@Dottysmum18 Thank you for explaining what exactly went wrong. I had a feeling it was something like that but I wasn’t sure exactly what. That makes a lot of sense. She did say she’d needed to cut the strips but obviously she shouldn’t have stuck wax on me without realising she couldn’t remove it.

Crikey I'm no expert but she's took your skin off with the wax.

Allthewaves · 22/12/2018 17:58

Sudocreme is very good. Thick layer on before bed.

Cheerbear23 · 22/12/2018 18:02

Was the wax too hot? I had something similar but on my bikini line, caused by too hot wax It went weepy and scabbed. She didn’t charge me afterwards but it was flipping sore.
The nappy cream bepanthen might be good on this, it’s most definitely not normal x

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 22/12/2018 18:18

@Cheerbear23 I don’t think it was too hot as I’ve had no issue with the skin above my brow that she waxed but maybe the wax heated up inbetween?

I’ve just been leaving it alone as I’ve been cautious of making it worse but I’ll slap a load of sudocrem on it before bed.

I had exactly the same thing before- ripped my skin off. It my skin was very dry at the time though, and I think that was the reason.

In your case, I’d definitely complain.

Number12 · 22/12/2018 18:37

Op I've had this a little bit (not as bad as yours) buts its not been because the wax was on too long it was because wax is too hot. Best thing is aloe Vera for 24 hours then rose face oil ( I use balance me). It could be that she left the wax on... She should have known better. Did it come straight up whilst still there? Either way it shouldn't have happened.

Skatersbeskating · 22/12/2018 18:42

Owwww Sad

UhUhUhDennis · 22/12/2018 18:50

Omg she definitely isn't a proper HD brows beautician! She's took your skin off,it's weeping because she's exposed the next layer of skin. Ouch. Also (nothing against you please don't take this personally) but your brows don't look like HD brows much either (unless it was your first ever visit and you're still growing them and the makeup has been removed -again no offence intended)

tablelegs · 22/12/2018 20:34

Wax has went cold and taken off a layer of your skin.

I would be complaining. Any beauty therapist worth their salt knows this. This is covered in waxing class in 1st year and re iterated over and over again until you're fully qualified.

Myusername101z · 22/12/2018 20:51

I’d be complaining about the eyebrows too

CSIblonde · 22/12/2018 21:14

Yep, she's left it too long & it's taken skin off. Aloe vera gel will soothe it & heal it quickly. Sudocrem is bit heavy so I'd be careful if you have sensitive skin. (my eyes flared up when I got too near them with it).

BatShitBitchChops · 22/12/2018 21:21

I had mine done today. I get HD every 4 weeks. I have rubbed half the make up off now but yours don't look as defined? I assume she didn't thread after she had waxed half your skin off?! Did she measure them all out and stuff? I would be making a complaint about that, it looks so sore!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 22/12/2018 22:06

@UhUhUhDennis No offence taken at all. I’m not all that happy with the shape of them.

@tablelegs Thank you, it’s good to know that this error is waxing 101 and therefore really shouldn’t have happened. I understand mistakes can be made but if something like this is reiterated over and over it shouldn’t happen.

@BatShitBitchChops She measured them out the first time I had them done but not this time. The photo was taken this evening so all make up long gone. She didn’t thread or pluck either given the state of them. Your brows are lovely and very much what I wanted.

My HD brows technician is a "master" if you go on the HD brows website you can find someone local. I suggest seeing one who is a "master" but only once everything is healed and calmed down. I saw a lady twice for HD brows and they were awful and I couldn't understand why everyone thought HD brows were so amazing. Then I saw a master technician and thought oooh I see now!
