That I’m not going to die?

I have severe anxiety disorder, just now I ate a humbug sweet and it felt like it got stuck in my throat.
Not painful particularly, still breathing fine, drank some water and it’s gone down fine.

Terrified I have esophageal cancer and I’m going to die!

My DH says I am being ridiculous, I always panic over tiny things.

He’s right right?

I’m only 28.

Ate some bread shortly afterwards and the bigger ones felt a teeny bit uncomfortable going down.
But maybe that is because it was irraitated from the sweet?

You do not have cancer. Your throat is bruised from the sweet. You will be absolutely fine. Are you getting support for your anxiety? Flowers

I know your probably right, thank you

Not really, I have tried beta blockers, sertraline and citalopram but I never found any of them terribly helpful.

Keep meaning to try something mindfulness like like yoga or meditation.
I don’t think the medicine works for me.

When I took beta blockers they took 3 weeks to really kick in. How long have you taken them for?

Doggydoggydoggy · 21/12/2018 21:01

I am afraid I took them for well over a year, propranolol

Oh no op, that must have been scary, but I very much doubt its anything to do with cancer whatsoever! I did once swallow something bigger than I thought and it hurt my throat for ages, when I swallowed for ages after (weeks) it felt sore. I assumed it was scraped or bruised.
I have had beta blockers for my anxiety, I found they work better after a good while of taking them.

Doggy I hope you can find something that works for you. Obviously if you have persistent swallowing problems then you should get it checked out. But at 28, the chances of you having oesophageal cancer are absolutely tiny. And wouldn't it be a weird coincidence for the symptoms to develop immediately after you swallowed the sweet?! Sorry to hear that medications haven't worked for you. I hope you find meditation and/or yoga helpful Flowers
