Thumb sucking

My DS4 has just done his first term and is shattered! A couple of days ago we've noticed he's been sucking his fingers/thumb. My DH keeps shouting at him and nagging and it's not like he's misbehaving. He woke up with a bad dream the other night and I think Christmas is all a bit much for him.

Aibu to think it's a phase and he will stop when he's a bit more relaxed? It's not all the time, just when he's a bit tiered.

DH isn’t really shouting at him over thumb sucking, is he?

I write as a 35 year old in braces.

Braces I've had to save £4500 for and can only just afford now, to sort out my overbite and badly alligned teeth, caused ONLY due to thumb sucking as a child.

I've got the braces for two years and they're painful buggers.

Definitely a habit to nip in the bud ASAP.

Shouting won’t help. We used the nail biting stuff on my daughter and her very ingrained habit stopped within 3 days. If it persists give that a go

No not raising his voice but "fashion thumb, out!" Type thing.

I just kind of think the more it's mentioned the more aware he will be he's doing it and then when Christmas has passed and things are not quite as excitable it might stop. Could be wrong. But I don't think nagging him will help.

I think that for a child who has started school. My DD sucked hers for years; I'd nip it in the bud now before it becomes a habit if you can.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 21/12/2018 17:57

That's OK I meant.

Might be an idea to use that antinail biting stuff at the same time as giving him something else to comfort hi
