Neighbours dog barking!!

Neighbours are totally unapproachable. Should I call the SSPCA? The council? Someone else? Poor dog must be so stressed, it's just a young dog and it barks constantly when they go out Sad

There's not much you can do unless the dog is being neglected I'm afraid :( Seems to be a thing in this country that dogs barking is on par with babies crying and everyone should just put up with it consistently, even if it's disrupting their lives. I live on a terrace of 8 houses, 3 of which have dogs. None of them seem to have any control and bark all day every day, often into the early hours too. I love dogs and know responsible owners. I have been around many dogs that I've never heard bark unless there was a knock at the door. It is possible it's just some owners are entitled and think it's acceptable so don't bother with any training. Unless you run a registered business from home and have clients coming in and out I don't think any authorities care how it affects us! I have even had to put off TTC for the past 2 years because of the horrific levels of noise from my neighbours, it's hard enough for a toddler here let alone a newborn

BudgieBalls · 21/12/2018 12:32

You report it to the council you will get a sheet to fill in of when the dog is barking/how it affects you. If the noise doesn't stop they give you a device to put in your home to record it and they may end up being taken to court.

I'm not bothered about day to day noise, I was more concerned about the dog Sad

I’m sitting with noise cancelling headphones on as I’m relaxing with a book and just can’t relax or concentrate with next door’s dog barking madly every two minutes when someone walks past. I know when my neighbour is in as you don’t hear a peep from the dog unless someone’s actually rings the bell which is fair enough. On every thread about this issue, I’m always amazed how many dog owners seem to think it’s natural and acceptable for their dogs to behave like this for hours on end, saying it’s just guarding the home till they get back. No. It’s selfish and anti social and the sign of an untrained, lonely and stressed dog.

Two next door here are going mental, is it s sign of being neglected??

Santaispackinghissleigh · 21/12/2018 13:04

Post a chew through the letterbox - poor ddog .

tinseltitties · 21/12/2018 13:11

Oh, I didn't realise it was deemed ok. Honestly the dog must be so wound up. It's not even alone, there are another 2 dogs plus about 6 cats in there as well!!

The noise really isn't an issue, it's only recently I have noticed it because I have been home during the day a few times the past week or so. They don't go out that often, maybe once or twice a week so I don't suppose anything would be done then. It literally barked for hours though, poor dog Sad

If you go on your District Council website there should be a "report a noisy dog" form you can fill in.

Miffymeow · 21/12/2018 13:32

I'm sure the dog is fine, some dogs just bark a lot. Ours is 4 and a half months old and irritating the hell out of us but no amount of toys, free access to the garden, dog walkers, everything... he likes to bark sometimes and it drives us bonkers.

If the neighbours don't go out very often then they are probably trying their best but if he has chew toys and other dogs for company I can't see what more they can do. He most likely has separation anxiety which is incredibly hard to overcome.

The dog next door has it and would bark all night long if he can;t sleep in owners bedroom... she has now given up and he just sleeps on her bed so we can sleep. Dogs are a pain in the arse.

Thankfully ours only barks when he has something / someone to bark at... unfortunately this sometimes includes slugs in the garden.

BordjyBoo · 21/12/2018 13:33

Do NOT post a chew through the letter box what a fucking stupid suggestion!!!!! Dog could have allergic reaction or choke eating unsupervised , OP said dog was very young. Ridiculous

5fivestar · 21/12/2018 13:35

Miffymeow - if you’re out all day, surely you’d rehome it

Miffymeow · 21/12/2018 13:55

5fivestar I'm not sure if you are referring to my dog or OPs neighbours.

Mine is very happy and I spend a lot of time with him, he is with people most of the day. He is just a baby who likes to bark and things because everything is new and exciting to him. When we do go out, he immediately goes outside and plays.

OP said that their neighbours rarely leave the house so it is not alone all day. They can't take their dog out every single time surely, he should be ok to be home alone for a while, especially with company of other dogs. From what I understood, OP is worried about dog barking every time neighbours leave the house, but it isn't possible to never leave the dog at home, some places don't allow dogs.

themoomoo · 21/12/2018 13:58

tinseltitties · 21/12/2018 14:05
