Will an abdominal ultrasound show up an ulcer
I have been vomiting some blood, not large amounts, just enough to colour the vomit pink and feel like there is a knife in my stomach. I have an US scan on the 28th of my abdomen. Will that show up the stomach?

No, ultrasound is not a good way to see ulcers - they are usually diagnosed with endoscopy. If you continue to vomit blood, you should go to A&E.

I take Lansoprazole for my stomach so have taken 3 tonight, as keep vomiting them up. Will that help (doesn't seem to be) if it's an ulcer or wound?

OP posts:
bluefolder · 21/12/2018 08:04

No, you can't really see the stomach on an uss

Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:04

Thanks Sock, I should have known that. I've had those before.

Agree you need to see a Dr ASAP

Bambamber · 21/12/2018 08:06

You need to seek medical advice in real life. Please don't just keep taking more lansoprazole than prescribed without speaking to someone.

Anyone on here could claim to be a medical professional and give dangerous advice.

I have duodenal varices, so probably should be getting my ass to A&E for like the fucking 10th time this bloody month. FFs, I'm so fucking sick of one thing after the other. I think I could just walk out the door and I'd manage to find the blooming hospital on autopilot at this rate.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rough OP. When I had an ulcer someone on here suggested something called "rollcure" which is a method used to treat horses I think (Google it).

It involves drinking chamomile tea and then laying in different positions so your stomach gets covered with it to help ease pain.

Obviously you need the doctor but this might give you some relief.

Ok, GP or A&E?

OP posts:
Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:15

Can't get through to GP as usual. Was just at the GP yesterday. Is it ok for me to cry yet?

Spockster · 21/12/2018 08:28

If you know you have varices and it seems they have started to bleed you should go to A&E immediately. Don’t drive.

bluefolder · 21/12/2018 08:34

Known varices and vomiting blood = A&E now. Good luck.

Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:44

I don't know if they've started to bleed. From what I've been lead to believe, if they were bleeding I'd know about it (I only have one I think - I just don't know the singular of the word).
Anyway, they're below the stomach, so wouldn't be coming up in vomit?
I tried the online version of 111 and it asked me two questions and told me to ring 999. Don't worry, I'm not going to be doing that!

Probably just a bad heartburn I'd say, but apart from Rennies and the lansoprazole, I don't know what else to take.

OP posts:
Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:46

Could the varices have gone away, I was diagnosed with that in January?

OP posts:
Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:49

The treatment for the varices (or is varice the right word for one) was that I was put on blood pressure meds for 6 months and then stopped by my GP as the consultant at the time had prescribed for 6 months only. From my understanding it's just an enlarged blood vessel. Surely it would have gone down in 6 months (11 months now)?

Kariana · 21/12/2018 08:50

My friend's father nearly died from a bleeding ulcer. He hadn't even got to the vomiting blood stage. You are potentially losing a lot more blood than you can see in your vomit. A&E right now. Don't wait.

Punto1 · 21/12/2018 08:50

Have requested a phonecall back from GP which will be after surgery finishes at 1pm. So probably about 1.30 or 2pm.

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/12/2018 08:52

Call 111; or get someone to take you to A&E. Seriously:

I sympathise that you've been there a lot, I'm the same recently and it sucks, but you need to be seen.

scrambledheads · 21/12/2018 09:17

Nurse here. Don't overdose on lanzoprazole - if you go to a&e they can give you it IV and give an anti emetic to stop vomiting too. This might give whatever's bleeding a chance to clot/heal slightly. Gp will probably send you there anyway. Good luck

Punto1 · 21/12/2018 09:20

Haven't overdosed on the lansoprazole, just vomited it up twice up so took the last one which has stayed down but I'm still on fire. I'll see what GP has to say.

OP posts:
Jammerbean · 21/12/2018 18:05

Hope you've been seen op!

Mooey89 · 21/12/2018 18:08
