I'm not feeling great and both me and little one have been in contact with hfm today We had a elf visit booked in for Monday night due to how close it is to the end of the incubation period for us- last day for it is Monday or Tuesday depending on what guidance you read and not wanting to spread this around would you cancel the vist and arrange it for next Christmas or go ahead with it and enjoy.

Gut is telling me to cancel and explain to my DD that the elf was too busy at the north pole packing toys but sent the Xmas Eve box instead.

What is an elf visit? I’m not sure that you need to cancel just because you’ve been exposed to something.

Pachyderm1 · 21/12/2018 07:52

I think it’s fine, but what in the world is an elf visit?

PurpleDaisies · 21/12/2018 07:53

Is this a thing now?

Ellisandra · 21/12/2018 07:57

“Monday or Tuesday depending on what guidance you read” - what on earth does this mean?!

I wouldn’t even spin any bullshit about being busy at the north pole. It’s all magic, busy doesn’t wash. Just tell the truth - we’re not well and it would be a terrible time of year for the elf to get sick, and so the elf is leaving your box on the doorstep.

Ellisandra · 21/12/2018 07:58

Oh sorry - guidance is guidance on your incubation period. I though you’d been adhering to some bollocksy Instagram rules about when an elf can visit 🤣

Grin I think this says a lot about the current state of intense christmas saturation tbh...

Atalune · 21/12/2018 08:02

I don’t understand any of your post Confused

silkpyjamasallday · 21/12/2018 08:04

Dd had hfm recently, there is no way she would have been up to doing anything so soon, she was quite poorly and lethargic for just over a week with it. I'd cancel and arrange to do it next year, and have an evening in watching a Christmas film together on the sofa with snugly blankets and hot chocolate instead. Hope you are all better soon Flowers

Looneytune253 · 21/12/2018 08:06

Have you actually got hfm? I can’t tell from your post. I would wait and see if you’ve got it first. It’s actually quite rare for adults so maybe you’re just under the weather

Oakenbeach · 21/12/2018 08:09

Hfm = Hand, foot and mouth?

Do you have it or have you just ‘been exposed’ to it. If we all ceased contact just because we’d been close to someone who’s ill the world would grind to a halt. I’ve been in around people at work with a cold... should I quarantine myself in case I get it?....

This all sounds like you’re looking for an excuse not to go. Anyway, when did visiting an elf become a thing... surely it’s Santa who you visit!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/12/2018 08:13

I don’t know what an elf visit is. Any chance of a Skype from the North Pole?

Ellisandra · 21/12/2018 08:14

I don’t think OP is visiting the elf.
It’s a new thing, where enterprising companies send a person dressed up to your door to deliver a present / Xmas box / whatever. Usually party character companies - you can get Anna or Elsa to arrive with your birthday present, that sort of thing.

Can’t fault people for trying to make money.

I think it’s pretty OTT to book them and think it’s sad that Xmas just isn’t enough without more money spent. But... it’s a divisive subject Grin

TheFantasticFixit · 21/12/2018 08:16

Oh god.

So you don’t actually have HFM, but just in case you are going to cancel something no doubt you have all been looking forward to?

Just play it by ear. Why you need the input of others to do that, i’ve no idea. Pull your big girl pants on and decide on the day whether you are all well enough to go. Pretty sure you’ll be absolutely fine.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/12/2018 08:16

But aren’t elves tiny? Won’t the children realise that they are not really elves? I was a very nit picky child!

costacoffeecup · 21/12/2018 08:34

HFM seems to be at our nursery almost permanently, we'd never leave the house if we stayed in every time we had a 'possible' exposure to things! You can't live your lives like that. If you're actually ill on the day then cancel but it's three days away...

Oakenbeach · 21/12/2018 08:35

Elves aren’t actually that short... In Lord of the Rings they’re about the same size as adult humans!

ChristmasFlary · 21/12/2018 08:47

No idea what an Elf Visit is.... but l want one!! Am l too old??

Ellisandra · 21/12/2018 09:27

Not at all - if you’re prepared to pay, an elf company will take your money! Do what makes you happy!
Just be prepared for an odd look from the elf Grin

Villanellesproudmum · 21/12/2018 09:31

There is an actual National Elf Service! Who knew, wow Grin

brizzledrizzle · 21/12/2018 09:34

Maybe there is a market for an adult elf visit, I wonder if Sean Bean has a few spare days.

NerrSnerr · 21/12/2018 09:37

Do you actually have HFM or just been exposed. You can't stay in if you've just been exposed, you'll always be in quarantine if you stay home every time you come into contact with something.

Fullofthought · 22/12/2018 10:39

So glad I cancelled little one has started to come out in the blister like spots round her mouth and on the palms of her hands.
