So I’m not being unreasonable when it comes to daughters dad who is an utter knob in every way but today has been one step too far !

Daughter dad has never lived with us he left when she was in nicu at 2 weeks old and we moved in to this flat in 2015 when she was 18 months old !
He has never even stayed a night or has any connection to this house.
Now I’m a single mum who is on benefits and carers as daughter has a life limited disease.
This morning I got post now I’m the only person in this house ( adult wise )
So automatically picked up post and opened it.
The letter was Barclays Bank, with a new card saying welcome etc
Explaining there is A 800 pound credit limit including 200 pound cash blah blah
Now I was confused as I never applied for anything so looked at name and it was on my daughters dad name !!!!!!
Then I realised there was 2 more letters from different companies in his name ( didn’t open these )
I rang Barclays straight away and they said unfortunately because that’s the details he used they can not stop the letters coming to my address.
Then he took my name but not number and said I will investigate. That’s it ??

My worry is that the DWP/ HMRC are pretty hot right now and any sign of an adult living here I would be put under investigation and our money could be stopped ?

Isn’t this fraud ?
How did he get the credit agreed with no previous link to my address?

They CAN stop the letters. They will say they can’t, but they can. Threaten (in writing, via recorded delivery) to report them to the financial ombudsman unless they reply within 14 days to confirm that they’ve removed your address from these accounts and will not contact you again. You could also threaten them with GDPR as you have not consented to this use of your personal data and you want your address removed from their system. Also contact the police as your ex is attempting to commit fraud.

If the letters keep coming, follow through with your threats to report them via GDPR and the ombudsman.

What an arse he is! I'm also a single mum on benefits and know exactly why you're worried.

Yes it's bloody fraud he's claiming that's his address and it isn't and never has been! Don't know wtf Barclays think they're playing at they should know this!

Call Barclays again, this time ask to speak to fraud dept. If they STILL don't act report their arses too!

"Remember that opening another person's mail, even if it's got your address on it, is a crime" no it's not. If you have a reasonable excuse - and I think potentially being a victim of fraud would be considered reasonable - then it's fine.

If you want to get proof of address, I know of one bank (Lloyds), where you can literally go into the branch, tell them your new address, they update the system, then you ask for a printed statement, and there you are, bam, proof of address. Why he is using your address is a different question though, as surely he knows he's not going to receive his post.
I'd open the other letters too though. My nose would get the better of me.

It makes no sense that he would set up new accounts with your address. It's more likely that he has been using your address all along, and just has never updated it when applying for new products.

@PyongyangKipperbang not necessarily true. I recently applied for an interest free credit card and received my credit rating in a report along with the card. I had to list the last 3 addresses I lived at, 2 homes ago I used to live with ExDp and he’d run up £10,000 of debt whilst living with me. It clearly shows on my credit report that this has affected my own rating and it’s taken a lot to prove that the debt wasn’t joint and I believe the companies he ran the debt up with are looking for him, he failed to tell them his address after we split up and moved out

I think he wanted to rack up a load of debt, thinking op would divert the post to his, but she’s smart enough not to allow that to happen. Funnily enough, it’s Christmas soon, so someone needs the money.
Do contact 101, and action fraud to get it logged. I’m sure you’ve got more than enough to deal with.
