Not sure if this wants to be on employment issues but Admin feel free to move if necc ? Ive been in current P/T position going on 5 years now & other than having occasional cover to look after my kids ( 3y.o & 6y.o ) I work every other Saturday am. Salary barely enough to cover basic bits , my o.h is in a good job & supports for me & both kids etc ( thank god !! ) Ive recently therefore volunteered my services in Feb this year to start a P/T maternity leave cover one day per week. Better salary because of increase in hours ! From the outset Ive stressed to all staff including line manager that I hadnt expected anything to come from maternity leave but happy if it did ( secretly hoping !!) , OK so employee coming back in Early January to resume her job, 2 months ago I was approached by Co director saying they had created a job for me working p/t split shifts at another branch around school runs etc 5 mins from my home !! - thought great FINALLY at last my dream job !! , then 2 weeks ago director comes back t me saying sadly they haven't got the budget to improve branch to accommodate me there now but will have in future ? as they have doubled staff numbers & done various building improvements to current workplace - I'm gutted to the least ! The working every other w/e was fine to work whilst I was sahm with very young kids but not enough hours anymore to, so what do I do jump ship to look for something else or let them dangle me on a string until they get their act together ? I'm torn & cant see whats best to do , such an akward time of year in my industry to be looking for new employment full stop !

I don't think it is as black and white as that.
Obviously, keep looking at whatever sites you use to find a job in your industry. If you see one you think would suit, then apply for it. Your employers will totally understand that you will be doing that, if you are looking for more hours / looking to drop the weekend work and they can't offer it. If you don't see something you want, then you've still got the 'okay for now' role at your present company.
You don't 'owe' your employers anything, but if this isn't a great time of year for recruitment in your line of work, then you just won't see anything at the moment so stay where you are until it is a better time of year.
