To not get the hype over happyland?

Was talking to some friends with children a similar age to mine about what they were getting for christmas and they were raving about.

I looked at it last year for my eldest two but it's just flimsy, little plastic things. For £50!

What am I missing??

The fact you are not the target audience?

We had quite a bit of Happyland stuff when mine were little-it was great. Plastic-yes, but none of it was flimsy!

yesmelord · 20/12/2018 16:07

DD has masses of happyland but we brought it all second hand as couldn't justify the price of loads of sets.

It's great she sits and plays and talks all the little people. She loves lining all the people up and doing different stories with them.

I'll be saving it all for DD2 as well as I'm sure she'll love it just as much.

Each to their own.

That's true Elaina Grin
I'm sure I coveted loads of plastic shite that my parents didn't see the attraction of when I was their age

My DD loved happyland...but we never paid full price!!! ELC have loads of half price sales.
We got the bluebell boot for £25!!

Seriously my dd loves happyland and spends hours playing with it and her peppa figures (does not like the happy land figures). Shes 2. Her fav is the horse and caravan which cost me £1.80. Ive bought all second hand. They amazing quality and honestly keep their value on resale. She didnt get on with the windmill so resold it for what i paid for it. Best plastic toy she has!!!! She puts george on one bed and peppa on other

My DC loved HappyLand & played with it a lot, it definitely is not flimsy Smile

Over the years HappyLand stuff was bought on sale or second hand & we had quite a collection including school, house, shops, mat to put in on, loads of people including Santa, the queen & corgis!

adviceonthepox · 20/12/2018 16:36

Compared to fisher price and tech toys the happyland stuff way outperformed them. My kids love it! I still have the rocket and fire engine and pirate ship, they are 12 years old and still going strong. They've been played with a lot by my children and all my nieces and nephews. We have the tree house, train set, cherry tree cottage, the fairy castle and the little fairy cottage. They are played with daily are 2 years old and are immaculate with not a mark on them. I bought everything half price in ELC sales and I can honestly say they are amazing!

missyB1 · 20/12/2018 16:38

We use it in the nursery where I work. Believe me it isn’t flimsy or it wouldn’t last with our lot! And they really love it.

rebelrosie12 · 20/12/2018 16:38

I thought the same before I got some second hand on facebook. It's very much not flimsy and the children genuinely love it.

melissasummerfield · 20/12/2018 16:40

Ive got 3 under 5 and we still have all the original happyland we bought for DS1, still in excellent conditon and youngest is now starting to play with it!

I absolutely rate it, always bought it in the half price sales though Wink

SoyDora · 20/12/2018 16:41

Never heard any hype over it but we have some that is 4 years old and it’s still played with, and I’m keeping it for DC3 (due next week). Very sturdy, it’s as good as new!

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 20/12/2018 16:42

I'm not sure why you think it is flimsy, it's probably one of the sturdiest plastic play toys about for children that age, hence why you often find it in schools or nurseries.

It may also seem expensive but the sets hold their value well when selling second hand so once played with for several years and sold the cost is pretty minimal.

Watsername · 20/12/2018 16:47

I love Happyland! I bought lots of sets of it for the toddler group I set up - it's still going strong 12 years later.

elibee · 20/12/2018 17:23

I remember looking at it and thinking that the little doors and windows looked like they'd break off so easily but that was just looking at it in a shop and not seeing kids actually playing with it so I'll maybe have another look at it before dd's birthday 🤔

My 3yo still loves it. I don't consider it to be flimsy mind. We've got loads, bought second hand. My husband hates it for some reason. He keeps saying he can't wait to sell it but DD2 is only 6m so we've atleast 3 more years of it

AnotherPidgey · 20/12/2018 17:34

We've still got some favourite pieces at 8 & 5. They're the best modern equivilent of the vintage Fisher Price. It is durable and good for open ended play.
